Babe Gets Behind The Bar Again
On the set of "The Babe Ruth Story" - 1948
Seems like old times as Babe gets behind the bar in a recreation of his father's Baltimore saloon during a break in filming "The Babe Ruth Story". The "Vote For Teddy" sign is a reference to Teddy Roosevelt (U.S. President 1901-09) and indicates that the scenes filmed that day would be from The Babe's childhood.Last edited by BSmile; 08-03-2013, 07:29 AM.

Brother Matthias Offers Young Babe A Chance
Production Still From "The Babe Ruth Story" - 1948
(L-R) Bobby Ellis (young Babe Ruth), Ralph Dunn (George Herman Ruth, Sr.) and Charles Bickford (Brother Matthias)
From an actual scene in the movie, here's an alternate view of the bar that The Babe was standing behind in the last picture.

Babe Ruth Gets Horseshoes Tips From Mrs. Browillet
St. Petersburg, Florida - March 22, 1927
A Famous Baseball Slugger Takes To Horseshoes!
This one is my favorite Babe edit/postings that got lost in the website transition.
Wire Tag: “Photo shows Mrs. Browillet, champion woman horse-shoe pitcher, giving Babe Ruth of the New York Yankees, a few pointers about the outdoor “sport” in which she excels, at the Yankees training camp at St. Petersburg, Fla.”Last edited by BSmile; 08-28-2013, 12:04 PM.

Taking A Picture With The Babe
Braves Field, Boston - 1935
I'm still trying to definitively pin down who the player with the camera is. His socks suggest that he's a member of the '35 Phillies, but there isn't a #8 listed on that squad. So maybe it's 18, 28, 38, 48 and/or a different team? Thoughts?

The Four Mighty Swatters Of Baseball
Shibe Park, Philadelphia - April 11, 1928
(L-R) Lou Gehrig, Tris Speaker, Ty Cobb & Babe Ruth
I've posted variations of this great photo in the past (kneeling, standing etc.), but I've never known the exact date of when it was taken. Well, thanks to a version I found that still had the original wire tag on the back, mystery solved! So how did the "Mighty Swatters" fare that day in April? Lou (2-5, 2 singles), Tris (0-4), Ty (1-3, with 2 BB's) and Babe (1-3, a triple and 2 BB's). The Yankees won 8-3, here's the boxscore: 4/11/1928: NYY 8 vs. Phila 3Last edited by BSmile; 10-10-2014, 10:37 AM.

The Babe Poses With The Mayor Of Allentown
90 Years Ago Today - September 6, 1923 - Allentown, PA
(L-R) Babe Ruth and Allentown Mayor Malcolm M. Gross
On the previous day, Babe hit his 33rd HR as the Yankees beat the Philadelphia A's, 8-3 (Boxscore: 9/5/1923). So instead of taking some time to rest before their next game on the 8th in Washington, the team scheduled an exhibition in Allentown, which was common practice for teams of the era. Of course, it's questionable just how much "rest" The Babe would have taken if given the opportunity.

Is there any doubt Ruth was the most photographed American of all time? Forget just athlete. More than presidents, Elvis, The Beatles, you name it. In season or off-season, he was seemingly everywhere doing everything. That same fire that was in is belly as he walked through the gates of St. Mary's, he carried with him for many years to come. His energy, passion, and zest for life continues to amaze me.
If I haven't done so, let me formally thank you BS, for all the time you've put into this project and others. I posted photos and videos on The Ultimate Babe Ruth Thread but have made it clear it's not meant to be a comprehensive collection. For that, I have posted a link to this thread. Hope you don't mind.
"In some people envy and jealousy contend with love and admiration of public persons. They are full of affection for the memory of Babe Ruth but are anxious to believe their own standards of conduct are more rigorous in practice. At the same time they secretly feel they would have misbehaved splendidly if they had had his opportunities. They also are pleased at that secret guilty knowledge about themselves. One of the great pleasures Babe Ruth gave the world was that he became the idol of everybody who would like to flout ever rule of conduct and still be champion." - Marshall Smelser

I can hardly believe how many more Babe pics that I've yet to post, in various stages of editing, research, etc.
So there's a lot more to come...
Cheers!

Babe Enjoys A Post-Signing Cigar
Copley Plaza, Boston - February 1935
Seemed like The Babe had himself a pretty sweet deal as he signed on to be the Braves VP/Asst.Mgr/Player, but in truth he was only signed to boost ticket sales. Before the end of May he would be gone from the game.
