The Chicago Cubs were the first team to wear pinstriped uniforms.

But the Yankees made them famous.

I don't remember the entire history, but I once heard it was to cover up Ruth's bulging girth. I'm unsure if that's accurate, but I heard it somewhere.

It's not true. The Yankees started wearing pinstripes in 1915.

              Oh really? Thanks.

I'll need to research my history, since this was on some radio commercial I think. In 1915, Ruth was pitching up north. He'd been bought from the Baltimore minor league farm team.

Yeah, which books? I've got a few, but don't read them much.

I know some stuff by heart also, but some things before Joe D's start, I'm a little fuzzy on.

What's the playoff records of the teams who came from within a game of elimination to win a series? Who, when and how far did they go?

                    • No doubt in my mind...

...Yanks and the Red Sox have the best rivalry.

And can someone puleeeze tell Manny Ramirez that he's just NOT that special? After he hit that 3-run HR in last night's Game 5 with the A's, his little "I'm-da-man" stroll up the first base line (a la Barry Bonds and others) made me sick. Raul Mondesi tried that once or twice when he played for the Yanks and Torre told him to knock if off. So did Soriano a couple of times and Captain Derek set him straight. I can't think of anything more disrespectful to an opposing team and its pitcher.

And then Derek Lowe had to go and make obscene gestures toward the A's dugout.

Here was a perfect opportunity to show baseball fans that the Red Sox are not the arrogant, pampered divas that everyone thinks their rivals the Yankees are, and they BLEW IT with their unsportsmanlike attitude in my opinion.

I can't wait for the ALCS to start. If somehow my beloved Yanks get knocked out by the classless Red Sox, I'm gonna root for the National League!

Without checking (wouldn't know where to check, really), the Yanks were down 0-2 in Oakland back in the 2001 ALDS, but went to game 7 in the WS that year.

If you're talking about every team that played an elimination game that list would be very long. If you're talking about being down 0-2 that list would be somewhat shorter.

And the last time Boston was down 0-2 back in the 1999 ALDS they went on to lose to the Yanks in five. History is a funny thing isn't it?
