    • Lefty reliever

You remember, he made his ML debut at Yankee Stadium, in the ninth, three up, three down; how soon we forget. The day Francona was putting in the "fourth string" as it were. Perhaps your brain protected itself by forgetting.

Well, it's the 8th of May, almost 18% of the season gone (sob), & NYY did not seem to have a good time in Oakland, maybe Seattle will be better.

The chat room is at boston.com, the home page of the Boston Globe. No registration, so some people can be very nasty. If they get too bad, I trace, unless they have usd an anonymizer. I get so tired of hearing 1918, guys insulting one another by using slurs against their masculinity, & fans of either team that cannot distinguish the teams' accomplishments from their own.

I must say, I find the last most often in the Yfans that show up if the Ys are winning, or the Sox are losing.

Well, Moose is winning 33% of his games. Not too bad. Schilling 60%. A tad better.

Maybe the Yankees are skipping their afternoon naps?

I'm curious, which lefty reliever are you referring to? Lots of guys have made their debut, so certain things don't get forgotten easily, like Carlos Almanzar and Juan Acevedo.

        What's "usd", other than "US$"?

As to that forum, if things like that happen, I could just as easily visit the mlb boards. There were several smack boards awhile back all using the same software, and fans of teams would find each other, spam each other depending upon who was winning, who'd just lost. Trust me, nothing like that would ever be allowed here under CE.

As to fans being unable to separate their own accomplishments from their teams', that can be said of all teams, not just Yankee fans.

As to Moose, he's a slow starter, just like Bernie. We'll see how well he does in June, but in about his last start, he didn't look so hot. It's still early.

I don't worry about afternoon naps. Every year, Boston starts strong, then the Yanks pick up speed. 6 seasons in a row have shown a steady pattern of which team pulls ahead in the end. Perhaps we can actually see what Curt does against contending team later on in the season, rather than the Yanks when they were playing very poorly in April, and a few sub-.500 teams.

I'm curious, after Boston had a multi-game losing streak, why did you wait until Boston won 2 straight and the Yanks lost 2 straight to post?

        JMO.

        • Used, sorry, a spelling stickler?

          Dinnaro, lefty reliever.

          Pokey, another HR!

          Reasons absent:
          1. Windoze 98... still not exactly right. Grrr.
          2. Birthday, mine. (39 forever)
          3. Visiting relatives, no internet.

I don't post according to wins/loses. Spend time trying to convince older relatives moving heavy objects down cellar stairs is not to be done.

& too much time @ my MD. (When the front office staff, & all the people at the pharmacy recognize your voice....& MD calls after Sox lose game seven to make sure you are OK...

I don't know of a "Dinnaro" offhand, and he's not listed under espn.com, minorleaguebaseball.com, nor yankees.com. Who is he?

How often does Pokey hit a HR? Ortiz, yes, but since when is Pokey a HR hitter?

Yeah, I've had absences also, especially since in the evening, I post from work and if it gets busy, I can't post anything, so people will often wonder why of the many threads I'm involved in f/this and the NYY forum, why I'm delinquent. Hey, I need to get outside also, shop, pick up packages, just enjoy myself you know.

I pretty much forbid older relatives from moving stuff down to the basement. I can't keep bailing someone out when something falls and gets damaged, so I just tell them to ask me. Of course, that was when my Pops still lived in Brooklyn, but memories still last.

Yeah, I've got a few doctor's visits myself. They don't quite know my voice at the local pharmacy, but all I'll say is thank heavens for insurance. Otherwise, I wouldn't ever afford examinations, specialized tests and expen$ive pill$.

Now I'm wondering why the Boston offense is waking up at the wrong time. Curt just went 8, but we'll see how he does against Oakland and Anaheim.

BTW, the Yanks went 2 of 3 against Oakland, swept them in the Bronx, so I'd say we have a good May record against that team.

            • Pokey!

One inside the park HR that got lost in the right field corner, & one honest to goodness HR. In the same game! Nobody expected Pokey to hit. We're so happy to have a good infielder, anything above a 100 BA is gravy. Maybe he sat between Manny & Ortiz, & something rubbed off. We'll take it. Boston talk radio is going nuts.

Last night Manny ran home standing up, and only by luck was he not out. We'll take that, too. He did, however, motor around the bases full speed, while I was saying to myself, "don't trip, don't trip".

Varitek is turning into a clutch hitter. He catches, fields, calls, manages pitchers, & now he's getting clutch hits.

It may be that Nixon is in Boston to have his shoulder checked, & Nomah did some practice with the team, & of course, being at Fenway. Boston always has the edge at Fenway. 10-3 home, 9-8 away.

Dinnaro is a Rule Five, I think; I'll find out.

I enjoy pitching duels, but I don't think it is possible for the Sox to have too much of a lead. The extra innings & bottom of the ninth stuff are too much. Much easier on the blood pressure to watch Manny check out where over the Monster the ball is going to land.

ps-My uncle broke a promise not to move a TV down the cellar stairs. Grrr. Yep, March had 15 med appts. I have good medical people, but I'd really like to see less of them, & every New Year a resolution is to stay out of the ER; the Emergency Room is no place for sick people.

Why don't you introduce yourself in a separate thread? Tell us about yourself, where in Australia you live, what the sport's popularity is back there, where you get your baseball news, and your feelings on things like the DH, Interleague, how the rules have changed, the All-Star Game, favorite team(s), etc. You know, like what are your view on the game as a whole.

                  Thanks.

I see that w/the addition of Lee Mazzilli, the O's have gone from 4th to 3rd. DRays still in the basement, despite Sweet Lou's hair dying, and Red Sox are still playing second fiddle.

Now let's see if we can hang onto it, as we win another series against the dominant west coast teams, despite getting skunked on Saturday.

                            Two outta three ain't bad!
