  • Yankees Failing to Uphold Baseball Tradition

Yet another reason to prefer The Nation over The Empire: No longer will Cracker Jacks be sold at the Stadium. I heard a report on TV yesterday that the venerable and traditional Cracker Jack will be dumped in favor of Crunch & Munch. Shall we re-write the song?

"...Give me some peanuts and Crunch & Munch,
I don't care if I never.... get lunch?"

    Naaahhhhh.

So now we add yet another element to The Rivalry, to go with Boston v. NY, Nomaaahh v. Jeter, Tek v. Posada. Now it's Cracker Jack v. Crunch & Munch. I know which one I prefer!

Another report here in NYC said the reason for the switch was that FANS did NOT like Cracker Jack in the Bag, which is the only way it is now sold!

I guess TRADITION is NOT a high priority with the Stadium Bunch!

      Go figure!

      • The only thing getting crunched and munched lately is top-rated teams, as in 7 straight series won. You know, Anaheim, soon to be Texas, then Baltimore (and all their October dreams gone to waste, too!) Gee, ain't I a stinker?

Anyway, here's a NY Times article on the caramel treats: Yankees Cut Cracker Jack From Lineup.

I personally haven't tried Cracker Jack in 2 decades, but what's stopping you from picking some up at the local 5 & 10 store, or at a pharmacy or newsstand, then bringing it with you?

Now if the Yanks stopped selling hot dogs, then there'd be a mutiny!

Oh yeah, VT, we just beat red hot Anaheim 4-2, and $52m Colon, whom Bahstunned has prized for awhile. Who's that Cy Nobody pitcher from fearsome TB that beat your team yesterday, 9-6? Go munch on that sometime, my friend!

We've got tradition alright. On the menu:

Heart of Boston fans (wherever the Red Sox Nation resides)

Seriously, how many people actually ordered that anyway? I was more interested in the dogs and nachos, peanuts (bought from the local 5 & 10).

Now then, which junk food did Dodger Deb eat at Ebbets Field back in the days?

          • Had a good time in Texas?

Favorite Fenway munch: hotdog, & chocolate soft serve. I haven't seen the details yet, but one of three from Texas?

I think Nomah bettah recover fast, because Pokey doing the Hokey is getting *very*popular, & Youkillus & Bellhorn are not far behind. Ortiz signed for two years without a fuss.

As to what Lowe & Zambrano were pitching the other day; when the home plate ump is looking at Pinella,as if to say,"Aren't you taking him out?" & you can hear fans yelling at Francona to pull the pitcher.... Horrible baseball.

I think they finally tracked Manny's homer; it hit the dome at MIT.

            • Those two losses were winnable games, had Torre used the right guy out of the pen. You never use Tanyon Sturtze in a 1-run game (Friday) against a pennant-contending team, and taking out Paul Quantrill to put in Felix "Fresh off the DL" Heredia (Saturday) also didn't make sense.

Call me when you beat up on Anaheim *AND* Oakland -- both in their house and *YOUR* house. Until then, no comments from the Peanut Gallery in Beantown!

              • Peanut Gallery?

I am not now, nor have ever been, a member of any Peanut Gallery. Especially when the Sox are ahead by 1.5 (yes, I know May is not over) with Youkilus, Pokey, & Bellhorn playing, Nixon & Nomah DL, Lowe pitching horribly, Millar with no plate discipline & lousy fielding. I am very glad Sox are away from that awful indoor dome turf. Why hasn't the Player's Association banned that dangerous stuff? One wrong twist equals one broken ankle.

Please gently inform Georgie Porgie that Ortiz is signed. Maybe Porgie would like to take Mountain Biking lessons from the person who claims he fell off his bike. (I think his wife was upset he emptied her favorite bottle of alcohol...)

                  1) Personally, i think Youkilis is already a better hitter than Mueller. Although certainly Mueller provides intangibles on the field and in the dugout/clubhouse.

                  2) Giambi- out
                  Jeter- ????
                  Sheffield- until yesterday did nothing
                  Cairo/Enrique manning second

                  3) Lowe is still pitching better than Contreras/Gabe White/Felix Heredia.

But you still have every reason to (half-jokingly... i hope) beat your chest and enjoy first place. I look forward to the next 5 months of baseball indeed.

Assigning a Bostonian, who simply by being a Red Sox fan demonstrates sterling character and taste, lines to repeat. But of course your many sessions in detention taught you a bit about lines. (Not that I did not deserve a detention or two, but some of us were too smart to get caught.)

The bottle belonged to Laura Bush, Georgie either drank it, or spilled it, and she roughed him up, or she may have pushed him over poking him with one finger.

I found out today a 20 year old female I know is being transferred from South Korea to Iraq. I told her family promises made by the Army were worthless. I, very sadly, was correct. I wish she had a personal MD following her around. She won't even have a decent system of VA hospitals and medical care. Soldiers waiting MONTHS to see specialists. Grrr.

                      • Yeah, the smack talker in me has come about. Hey, I keep it all in here, but at least keep it friendly. Now don't forget your lines.

I'm not familiar with this story about our First Lady, so I'll just leave it at that. I hadn't even known that George drank. Oh, and that's "Mr George" to you New Englanders, not "Georgie Porgie", etc.

Best of luck and safety to your soldier friend, but I can't really get into war discussions here, since that's a form of politics. Thanks in advance for understanding.
