It's good to see that losing 3 games off your lead in 3 days
hasn't adversely effected your wonderful New York sense of humility . . .

                  • Ken, I'm just teasing you. Now if only I could do this like Theo and his predecessors have done, I'd be a genius!

Now then, as Mother Nature once said (if you remember that margarine commercial from 20 years ago), "It's not nice to doubt Yankee Baseball!"

Lemme know when you win the division, Ken. Who else would jump f/joy when so far back.

                          • After yet another ugly performance by the Pinstripers today (pitching and fielding), the SOX are only 6 GAMES BEHIND IN THE LOSS COLUMN....so, Matt, do not be too quick to assume "it's in the bag".

Take it from me, it isn't! I remember August 10, 1951, when BROOKLYN was 13 1/2 games AHEAD of the NY Giants....and resting very comfortably on that lead. NEVER in our wildest dreams did WE ever think WE would BLOW it....but BLOW IT WE DID...BIGTIME!

So, all you SOX FANS, you hang in there. After watching some of that game at the Stadium today.......I would say the door is more than a little bit open.....and in Baseball....YA NEVER KNOW!!

                            • Yeah, Deb, I saw the earlier part of the game. A-Rod booted a ball, then Derek did also. Not often both do this in the same game, but stuff happens.

At a time when the bats have fallen asleep on us, the pitching used to bail us out. In the past, it was one bailing out the other, but never usually both being ineffective at the same time, especially for a given stretch. Losing two consecutive series to contending teams doesn't bode well to me.

As to it being "in the bag", the only time I've ever thought that was if Sterling uttered his corny "Ballgame over ... World *SERIES* over ... thuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Yankees win!" thing.

The Yanks had an impressive cushion to win earlier, but seeing that Loaiza can't be more effective than the guy who relieves him, I figure that they should trade places, letting Sturtze go 5 and Loaiza go 2. After that, he gets lit up like firecrackers on the 4th of July.

So you remember standings from 53 years ago? Wow!

Our own Yogi (was he safe or was he out?) said that it wasn't over 'til it was over. He also said to Yankee players that they can't beat us, and that we've been beating Boston f/80 years, so ... I'll take my cue from the wise elderly gent and Yankee ambassador.

                              • WHAT part of "HE WAS SAFE" don't you guys understand, Matt?

As for "beating Boston for 80 years".........you know THERE IS THE LAW OF AVERAGES THAT COMES INTO PLAY, EVENTUALLY!
