  • What a beautiful day!
Satchel and Kramer make the puppy to dog transition (happy first birthday, girls!), and the Sox lay some serious wood to the Yankee$!
    What a beautiful day!

Congratulations to the 2004 American League Champion:
    BOSTON RED SOX
    Sweet!

De nada. Now if only the Yanks had been as inspired as you guys were. All that stuff about Terry not managing, yet he's the one using pinch runners, changing pitchers, going for the kill.

Enjoy your victory, Ken, but Torre's on my nerves right now.

        • I don't blame Joe. I blame the wall-puncher first and foremost.

Three Bronx Cheers for Kevin Brown!

          Congratulations Red Sox.

            Congratulations Red Sox.
Brown was a 1- or 2-inning pitcher who could've done that successfully, had he pitched around Ortiz.

I respect you very much, but you can either blame the person who makes a mess, or you can blame the person who's seen his last game, and still puts him in a position to create that mess in the first place.

Vazquez, Loaiza, Sturtze and El Duque were available. Between them, they surely could've done 8 innings.

In Game 7, just play tag-team, and who cares who can or can't go 5 innings. No law saying the SP has to get the win. Just get the win and don't be fussy whether it's your closer, mid-reliever or batboy who gets the win. Just win the game. Brown wasn't the right guy.

I'm just crabby tonight, so please forgive me. I'm just restraining myself due to a poorly-managed game. Oh well, have to see if Sweet Lou still hates George.

I don't know how I'll be able to deal with the humilation. We're down 2-0 in the second, but it feels like 10-0. This thing is over... and I'm pretty sure, so is my career as a baseball fan. There's losses, and then there's losses. I don't think losing a 3-0 series lead is the kind of thing I could recover from.
Heaven forbid the Yankees don't make the world series for the third time in the last eight years

              • What's going to decide it?

Ok. What's going to be the deciding factor that will be the difference between these two teams? For me, I think the tremendous offense of both teams cancel out each other. I think Boston's starters, especially Schilling and Martinez, will be the difference. St. Louis, although pretty solid, doesn't seem to have an ace/stopper. I really didn't follow their pitchers as much as their hitters during the year. Am I on target here or am I missing something?

                • You're not missing anything - their pitching is not big-name but has been getting it done quietly. The offense is so powerful it overshadows the pitching.

I'm pulling for Boston this year, but every time I've seen Pedro pitch I get the same uneasy feeling I do when the Mets go to the bullpen. It's like the game is suddenly up for grabs. But then, I've really only seen Pedro against the Yankees.

I think that could be because the two teams have faced each other (57) so much in the last two seasons alone. The Yankees know Pedros' pitching intimately, a luxury the Cardinals don't/won't enjoy . . .

                    • Where would this be applicable?
In the last two days I've come to realize that there's something glaringly missing from the the Baseball-Fever forum web-site . . . :noidea

Would anyone know of a web-site that would have a 'smilie' signifying 'Choking'?
                      Any ideas . . . Matt? -

                      • How sweet it IS!
New York Gov. George Pataki, left, dons a Boston Red Sox jersey to settle a bet with Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, right, at a hotel in New York Friday, Oct. 22, 2004. Because the New York Yankees lost to the Boston Red Sox in the American League Championship Series, Pataki agreed to wear the jersey to a public function.

Oh geez, did I use the word "choke" to you guys before? I'm not even sure what I'd written.

                          Long story.

Unless there are a few Cardinals players who remember him from the Montreal days...

You seem to forget all the grief you and especially YankeeMan gave me over the last three years! Remember all the 'Red Sox Game 7 past history' smack you've dealt me? This is my first time to enjoy giving it out instead of taking it . . . Roles reversed sucks, don't it? -
Seriously now. How else would you describe a team losing a series after it was up 3-0? - :noidea

Yeah, it does. But blame YM mostly. Hey, I'm not the guy who did that. Besides, I've only been here the past 1-1/2 yrs.

Yeah, I'll admit I swung some smack, but all in fun. I just wish it never happened. Ugh! :grouchy
