What is it about that team?? The Sox can utterly wipe out the Yanks, even threaten them with a sweep, then look like little leaguers next to the team that has a fully-loaded DL and just got swept by the Tigers! AARRGHGHGH!! :grouchy

It is a fact that a team that wins a lot, is envied and hated a lot. You see it in soccer with clubs like Ajax Amsterdam, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid etc. In their countries these teams are disliked because they have been so dominant over the years. And that's exactly what is the point here. Probably Red Sox fans and other fans will deny this and will say that this is a typical Yankee argument, but I don't think so.

Gee, I have never been so serious in this thread before
Heehee, I'm not blaming the Yanks for playing and winning as the circumstances allowed. I just happen to think that last year's Sox win is woirth more because it was harder to get than those years when the Yanks walked away with the title. The Yanks' 1996 win must be a more cherished memory to you guys, because it wasn't a "given". Sure, you liked it fine when the Braves, Padres and Mets were steamrolled, but isn't the hard-fought victory a lot sweeter?

For my part, I do with the Cards had put up a bit more of a fight last fall. Not TOO much of a fight, of course, but heck, it would have been nice to have a come-from-behind win or two in the Series. You know how nice those come-from-behind wins are. They make the eventual victory more satsifying.

Keep 'em scoreless this time. I heard they haven't been shut out in quite awhile. While you're at it, keep the crowd silent once again. In Fenway, silence is *GOLDEN*!

            • At Heaven's Gate?

Somehow, I don't think there are too many baseball players in heaven, much less at the Gate. Especially wearing pinstripes. I *know* there are many good people in Red Sox Nation; getting to the Gate and seeing pinstripes...they might think they were in the wrong place, or question what makes up the Trinity. We KNOW that Jesus is in center field.

Annie, I disagree with you. For the first time, I believe. If all the Cardinal games had been, say, 17-1, I would have been perfectly happy. It worked out so I was perfectly happy, but it's a good thing I'm a chocoholic and not an alcoholic. I enjoy pitching duels, but there are certain times when twice around the batting order is a good thing.

Yes, I don't get it, the boids don't have depth, they *do*have a DL, they don't have starting pitching, but yesterday was pitiful. Pitiful. At home yet. I'll be at the ballpark tomorrow. Any advice for Francona?

Of course I'm saying in hindsight that a momentary Cards lead in the series would have been good. If it HAD happened that way I might have had a heart attack. The ALCS was, of course, suspenseful enough.

Advice for Francona? For cryin' out loud, give them all the green light on 3-0!!!!!@!!! Hit-and-run! Bunt! Steal! Move the ding-dang runners!! Don't sit around and wait for Papi to hit one over the bullpen! Arghghghgh! :grouchy

Oh, and if you see Millar, tell him to grow out his hair again, to the wild blond mane. It looks better that way.

Hey, CB, are you going to buy a ticket for the Ring Raffle? I am, when I get there. What the hey, the odds are better than Powerball, and if I win, I get to see a Yankees game at Fenway, which is probably the only way in the world I'll ever get tickets to that matchup.

Of course the 1996 title was the sweetest. After trailing 2-0 winning it all.

The Sox's victory over the Yankees was awesome of course (well for the Sox fans). But how was the WS victory? 4-0 to St. Louis. Not really hardfought IMO.

Don't get me wrong. I really liked the Sox to win. It is good for baseball (I have some hope that the Cubs will win it all within a couple of years). It was a very sweet victory for you guys after a 86 year drought. But I still think that the WS victory wasn't really hardfought.

Please, please continue to believe we have no pitching. Please, please continue to underestimate the MASH unit from Charm City...right up to the point where you're playing golf with your Yankees buddies in October!

                        • Tomorrow night at Fenway....

Hmm, I hadn't decided on whether to try for a ring or not. I can't justify the expense, except if there is a receipt I could someday put on eBay.

Yes, bunts, steals, singles, walks, hit and run; I will try to get that message across. Millar's hair, okay.

Fenway quiet? Never. Mash Unit? Charm City? And these repeated postings of teeny boids. Has to be changed. Gotta get those boids back to eating worms.

                            Really? I haven't experienced this

I hope to experience it the opposite way sometime soon.

The O's own the Red Sox. Always have, always will. Happens every year...

And just because their pitchers make less than one Yankees pitcher or two Sox pitchers doesn't mean they are bad pitchers, just that they are underpaid. Don't underestimate a team that is leading in the standings, they are in first for a reason.
