This is the Bitter Rivals thread, Tigers. Over 220 pages full of laughable smack. You must enter this thread with a sense of humor. It's one of the few places on the boards where this is allowed. You have to take this thread in the spirit in which it's intended. It's all in fun. D'you think I'd take it Matt called us Sox fans "Beantown loserboys and losergirls" outside this thread? Of course I wouldn't... but in here, you just dish it right back.

As to Motown, I think that the Tigers need to strongly establish a presence for their city. Al Kaline did, but I haven't heard much from them of late.

Now spanking the Twin Cities does seem like a nice start. However, they'd need to go a little higher up on the list of regular October performers for me to be truly impressed. Let's see them try Cleveland or Oakland, then I'll be a little more impressed. Of course, if they can beat Boston, then I'd be *TRULY* impressed. We just know they're not gonna beat them Damned Yankees!

As to the record company, do you think that singers like the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Jackson 5 all grow on trees? Stevie Wonder's still on that label, isn't he? I think they should've stayed, but I haven't followed the music biz in awhile.

As to the music thing you might be right with Stevie on motown, I too do not follow the labels very much. Detroit however still produces a larger proportion of pop musicians then our population would account for. Kid Rock, Eminem, Madonna, the list long but as we go we get less and less relevant, but still good, Alice Cooper, Bob Segar, Iggy Pop. Well, I guess that just says, there's nothing to do in Detroit 'cept go to your garage and play some music?

What I was actually saying is that fans like a winning team. It's human nature. Hence the word "bandwagon". It's throughout sports, like the LA Lakers and whichever team wins the Super Bowl.

The Tigers need to at least contend, like the Twins have, to be taken seriously. I'm not sure they'll get past the Pale Hose, Cleveland or the Twins, but Cleveland got renewed respectability last season when when they *DIDN'T* make the playoffs. The White Sox insured that by beating them to end last season, both at the Jake and at the Cell.

I have no idea what Detroit's most famous for now, but since Motown isn't there anymore, and they'd literally made their name by being in the Motor City, then that's not a good thing. I'm not sure how many automobile companies have their headquarters and/or manufacturing plants there, but I'm presuming it's fewer than 30 years ago.

More like lack of time. I've got various duties here, and when you've got two forums to watch, one of which (this CE forum) is the most widely-used on BBF, and when I have to chime in on things other Mods bring up, then that leaves me with little time to do things. In fact, at times, I'm not even in this thread to joke around.

You'd pretty much need to get used to this thread, its regulars and as to myself, you'd likely have to get used to that also. If it's for you, go for it. If not, then there are other threads and other folks here to speak to. Tons of others in fact.

I don't pretend to be anyone's best friend here, but I do my best to keep the place baseball-related, clean, hospitable and PG-13.

She did at one time after the Yanks won that series. She was far from interested at the outfit she was wearing. I doubt she'll bet again. Now of course, if we needed an extra Beantowner here, I could rattle her cage somewhat to see if she takes a chance. However, I'd rather not.

I think that was the one where Robinson Cano made an error on a standard 4-6-3 play by throwing the ball away the short CF, instead of to Jeter. With everybody safe, only 1 out, the bases now loaded, a ball came sharply to Alex Rodriguez, who fired away to Posada for the force, who then threw and barely got the runner forced at 1B. One of the best bang-bang-bang plays I've seen in awhile.

Let's see what happens in this series. If it's a split series, then everyone keeps their own av.

Hold up, I just realized something: in order for one team to win, they'd have to sweep. I'm thinking it should be 1 week only. Only in a 3-game series would a sweep be optional for a win. In a 2-gamer, it would be mandatory to win both games to win the series.

I think we should just change it back to 1 week only for the win.
