  • Great Series!

    Interesting notes about this series:

    There were two blown saves.

Both closers won the games they blew.

All three games involved some form of a comeback in the later innings.

The first two were 1 run games, the last was a 2 run game.

Not a single game was won by a starter.

Not a single game was lost by a starter.

Sox lost the game pedro started.

Yankees lost the game that mussina and burkett started.

Lowe was out pitched by weaver.

Sox closer gave up 1 run each game. One for a loss, one for a win and one for a save.

Both teams made some increadible plays/catches.

Both teams made some horrible baserunning mistakes and errors.

Yankees scored 4 runs every game.

This was by far the best series for any two teams all year. Even you yankee fans have to agree that the excitement level in these last three games has been increadible. Not one easy inning. Not one easy win. Not one easy stolen base. Not one easy home run. Not one easy save. Not one easy pitch the entire time. The race remains close, and it's getting down to the wire. I, for one, am glad to be a baseball fan.

      I agree with you 99% . . .
Would've agreed 100% but you omitted the key word!

What an intense series. That's what the real game is all about, the competition between two talented teams reaching for the same goal. I loved it.
I wish we could play them 38 times a year instead of 19...

            Mr. Clutch . . .

{BTW, Georgie was last seen taking oxygen...}_

            • Do you think Steinbrenner would find it a disgrace to get into the playoffs by way of the Wild Card?

I'm sure he'd feel that way,
but more so because that would mean he lost 1st place to the Red Sox!

THAT... would destroy him! _ _

                    He wouldn't settle for less than a padded suite . . .

It reminds me of game six of the '75 series when Pete Rose made his famous "This is the greatest game I've ever played in" declaration in what ultimately would be a loss.

                            Six games left, Yanks lead;
                            the season series: 7-6
                            all-time series: 1043-851
                            Postseason: 5-1
                            Division: 1 1/2 games

Just keeping things in perspective. And one other thing, can anyone tell me what happened in that seventh game in 1975?

P.S. My condolences Mattingly, red is not your color.

oh, we got things inperspective just fine.
we just beat the yanks 2 out of 3 and spanked their bullpen. and now their lead is down to 1.5 games. Time for george to use his unfair advantage again to try to force victory - better go buy ANOTHER star player.

what would georgie do if after spending 180 million trying to guarantee victiry, the redsox and athletics made the playoffs and the yanks wathced from home?

                                he might completely lose it!
