Don't you guys already have Sauerbeck? Or was this related to reports that Lyon wasn't fully well when he was traded?

I'm just glad Theo didn't pull off the Ponson deal. Don't want you guys getting yourselves too happy now.

Yes, they re-worked the deal. So, basically it's 2 for 1.

      • So Mattingly, are you willing to accept your love for Wally yet?

        • The orgiginal deal was sauerbeck and a minor leaguer for lyon and a monire leaguer. Both minor leaguers were returned, we got lyon back, kept sauerbeck, gave up sanchez and got suppan.

So, overall, it ended up being sanchez for suppan and sauerbeck.

Theo should be made to wear a blank eyecover when he's in public, like that old Hamburglar used to. I hadn't realized that deal went out like that.

Had I known that the Reds were in fire sale mode, I think the Yanks should've sent them Mondesi, Hitchcock and someone else, taking away Williamson, Boone and Guillen, letting the thrown stones fall where they may from opposing teams' fans.

No, it was on ESPN (not 2), but it wasn't about the rivalry per say. It was about the trades made by the Sox and the Yankees. They were talking about how George and Theo were playing "Fantasy Baseball" with the two teams, trying to top one another.

                          • deals

Sox have done a great job filling all of their holes. They aren't really very weak in any area now, and they have very strong hitting and bullpen.

I see Mendoza being released in a week whe Foaaum gets called up for the double-header against teh O's. Assuming Casey Pitches well there, I think it's pretty clear there's no room for Mendoza.

My only question is what about Lyon?
The Sox claim he's healthy, and he was a mainstay of the pen before being dealt, so where does he go now?

It'll be quite interesting. I've read a rehab stint - rehab from what? I thought they said he was healthy? HMMMMMM?

Oh, is that it? Well, he must've had lots of fun when Doza and Todd Jones were pitching! Just think, Shane Spencer and Doza are still on the Yankee payroll, and that used car salesman doesn't even know it! Oh, and did A-Rod introduce himself nicely? Just wanted to make sure he tipped his cap *grandly* when he *walked off the field*. I wish to thank Boston for their gracious generosity.

Oh well, had lots of fun in the Texas heat? You didn't get charbroiled by the Texas heat, now did you? Oh, and I'm sure that the *weather* must've been a killer, also!

Anyway, nice to see you've quieted down once again. I hope that Angeloser's boys are still in bash mode this weekend.

Ahh, once again, the Yankee fans have jumped off the rally monkey bandwagon (the *only* bandwagon we've ever been on), returned to Yankee Stadium West (better known as Edison Field), and busted out the brooms and a can or two. Hope you liked Clemens' CG & SHO. Too bad you guys lost the second consecutive game your ace pitched in. Awwww, ain't that a pity. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Oh well, let me stop or I'll be wrongfully accused of talking smack.

                              • Mattingly, I've said it before and now I repeat, with vehemence:

PHBPLBHPLHBPLBHBPHLHBPLHBPLHBPLLPHLBPLHBLPHPLBPL!! And lpbhlpbhplhphllpbhbphlplhb! I'd elucidate further but I think you get the basic gist of my comment.

Dunno about Lyon. The Pirates say their MRI of his elbow showed a frayed ligament. The Sox say their MRI shows no damage. Perhaps someone should ask Lyon if his elbow hurts. He's on the DL until the matter is settled, and I imagine the rehab stint will be to get him loose again. I'm glad to have him back in the fold; I think he'll make a dandy starter someday.

Weird trades. I never saw anything quite like it. One thing I did notice is that they sent away Freddy Sanchez, who was quite possibly the Shortstop of the Future, and I read one report that said there would be no room for him at the big club in the forseeable future. Methinks this bodes well for the re-signing of Nomar.

Yes, they're wasting Pedro, and it makes me SICK. SICK SICK SICK!
