  • I don't mind losing a game or two, but we really need to be winning when pedro pitches.

But think of it this way... We're still on the heals of the yankees dispite losing most of pedro's games. Wait 2 weeks, when the new guys in the bullpen and the rotation are settled in. 2 weeks from now, we'll be even closer, if not ahead, followed by a major tear from the last half of august through september and on through the play-offs

Umm, George asked me to deliver this message to all optimistic Boston fans who are holding out hope:

The "June Swoon" has been delayed by two months. Oh, and welcome to August.

      • Don't you worry Mattingly, you'll get your next week. There's a reason why Anaheim is third in the AL West. The Mariners will go to Yankee Stadium and defeat those damn yankees. And the only tears I'll shed are tears of joy.

Dunno about Lyon. The Pirates say their MRI of his elbow showed a frayed ligament. The Sox say their MRI shows no damage. Perhaps someone should ask Lyon if his elbow hurts. He's on the DL until the matter is settled, and I imagine the rehab stint will be to get him loose again. I'm glad to have him back in the fold; I think he'll make a dandy starter someday.

Weird trades. I never saw anything quite like it. One thing I did notice is that they sent away Freddy Sanchez, who was quite possibly the Shortstop of the Future, and I read one report that said there would be no room for him at the big club in the forseeable future. Methinks this bodes well for the re-signing of Nomar.

Yes, they're wasting Pedro, and it makes me SICK. SICK SICK SICK!
I couldn't help it. We'd both won after our matchup, and I needed something to dwell on. Oh well, thanks for the generosity.

OK, so I went a *leetle* on the strong side. I needed to have fun, so please forgive me. :gt

I can't understand why there are two different readings on the same elbow. I figure everyone's got their sports elbow specialist, and if he's OK, why's he on the DL? Is this required when his condition is in dispute?

I'll see how Little uses Williamson and Kim to get the last 2-3 innings. However, in the past, he often got lots of run support, and even on an occasional off day, the bats would at least bail him out with the ND. Strange thing when you're said to be the best AL pitcher, but Halladay has about twice as many wins.

            • Thanks. How many teams currently have a mascot? How about through history? I guess that San Diego Chicken was the first.

I have no idea about through history, or the San Diego Chicken, but currently, 23 of the 30 Major League teams have Mascots.

                • I couldn't wait, so I posted a new thread here under "Current Events". I didn't feel like creating two threads, so I also asked about history. We should have something decent by Sunday.

If you're counting on that this year, then prepare yourself for such a level of disappointment that, well, it probably would be a good idea to start screening therapists.
                    Be prepared...

Sorry Ken. I know it's going to sound bad, but I'm cheering for the Yankees tonight.

I'm cheering for both of them to lose!

We're fighting NY for 1st place
and Oakland is fighting NY for the wildcard...

                              • this stinks

if we had won, we could enjoy the yanks-a's knowing one of them has to lose.

but when we lose, we know one of them will win.

                                oh well.
                                where are our bats?
grady is not good in close games.
he always makes moves only aftet the horse has left the barn.
