I know what you're saying, but it seems now that he didn't like it here, and his performance this season certainly wasn't stellar...how about that front office finds a 1Bman who WANTS to be on the Red Sox and is just ITCHING to lay a whomping on them Yanks?!?!!?
We need to bring Fisk in to tutor these young guys on the proper attitude towards those Bronx-based boys..."I was holding down Michaels with one arm while punching that fatso Munson with the other...he was such a wuss he kept hitting me with both hands! You gotta expect those Yanks to cheat..."
          ;^)

(BTW, I respected Munson's grit and his death was tragic...but, even his teammates called him "Captain Badbody"...)

I hear ya. But I'm afraid they just don't make them like Fisk or Munson anymore. Today they take no pride in your teams' city, history or rivalries. When their contract is up, they move on to the next highest bidder . . . :dismay:

                • A little personal story: I have a cousin ("Billy") who grew-up (and still lives in) the Boston area. Naturally, he's a saux fan. When we were wee lads, his favorite player was Fisk. Mine has already been delineated above. Every summer, at the family reunion, we fought like cats and dogs.

In fact, the ONLY thing we agreed on was that we both had no love for the
Cincinnati Reds (see 1975 & 1976 World Series).

Just a little of the colorful life of the YankeeMan.

I was also a Reds hater (stupid ban on facial hair), so in '76 I didn't care who won the Series....

WHOA!!! CALM DOWN BIG FELLA!!! YOU'RE SPOOKING THE HORSES!!!!

My attitude towards Munson changed a lot after I read his (posthumously published) autobiography...he was a pretty sharp cookie and a very good family man. Thurman worked extra hard to be a good dad because his father was emphatically not one of them, as I see it. I don't like it when people joke about his death because the guy left kids behind, and they were the exact reason he flew...to spend more time with them. I don't see him as having been a "nice" person, but he was a good one who could also play some serious ball.
But, you gotta admit he was...well, you know...he wasn't in as good a shape as Fisk, I'll put it that way.

                        • My favorite memory of Munson:
At a game I attended in 1977, a young pitcher (some guy named Guidry) throws a pitch that bounces a few feet in front of the plate. Munson skillfully blocks it and keeps the runner on first. A couple of pitches later, Guidry does it again. Munson, true to his Gold Glove status, adroitly blocks it again. But this time he walks the ball back out to the mound and informs Guidry (in voice loud enough to be heard in Queens) that, if he does that again, he's gonna kick his ass. Then, without giving Guidry a chance to respond, he calmly turns and walks back to his position as if nothing had happened.
Very fiesty. But that's Munson in a nutshell. And why he's always been my favorite Yankee.

Jeez, at least your boys still have an excellent shot at making the playoffs...the Bosox are putting the peanut gallery out there to see if they can play!
I feel like the O's have been incredibly lucky and their luck is going to desert them in the end.
Who knows, but, hey, it's exciting to watch the suddenly competitive AL East (well, at least three teams...)!!!
