Still the single best, going full speed, back to home plate, diving catch that I've ever seen. :disbelief:

I'm not saying that because I'm a big Yaz fan either. It was simply amazing. The fact that it preserved a no-hitter at the time made it that much more special.

      • This season could be interesting after all . . .
Right from the seasons start, I felt we, (Red Sox fans), were let down big time by the Red Sox front office. By not adding an obviously much needed power bat, we didn't have much of a chance to realistically challenge the Yankees or Tampa Bay in the AL East. But looking at the standings today, this summer might be at least interesting. (:crossfingers

It reminds me of a picture posted by a Yankee fan in this thread a few years ago when NY was closing in on the 1st place Red Sox.

          • Ya, but I'd feel a lot more optimistic with Adrian Gonzalez hitting cleanup for us . . . .

              • You tell me.
That was Theo's way to rationalize not spending any money for top-notch clean-up hitter. Which still is what the team so desperately needs for them to have a chance to compete in the AL East.

                • Honestly, I love reading through threads I've walked into late, to catch up on what I've missed. however, since there are 9,000 posts on this thread, I'll just chime in ...

1.The Old Firm is the greatest rivalry in sports history, the Red Sox/Yankees second. Sorry but the longer history and the religious/class/ethnic ties to this rivalry is too great for the Sox/Yanks to overcome.
                  2. As a Brewers fan, there are a number of rivalries that I believe are active.
-Brewers/White Sox: This is not anywhere near as active as it was when the Crew were in the Al.
-Brewers/Twins: It seems to me these are the two Northern Midwest teams and share many things in common. This is still a popular rivalry to people from Wisconsin.
-Brewers/Pirates: This is a strange rivalry for us, but WE HATE playing the Pirates. There were a few years there where they destroyed us, no matter how good our team was.
-Brewers/Cubs: This is THE rivalry for Brewers fans. I would like to hear Cubs fans opinions on this, because I don't buy the idea this is only a rivalry to the Brewers. There is so much hate when these two teams are playing each other ...
                  AL East Champions: 1981 1982
                  AL Pennant: 1982
                  NL Central Champions: 2011
                  NL Wild Card: 2008

"It was like coming this close to your dreams and then watching them brush past you like a stranger in a crowd. At the time you don't think much of it; you know, we just don't recognize the significant moments of our lives while they're happening. Back then I thought, 'Well, there'll be other days.' I didn't realize that that was the only day." - Moonlight Graham

                        • A month ago the Red Sox were 8.5 Games behind, and now they're only one game out. Who'd of thunk it?

                          Certainly not me.

                              • How did this happen?

For a team, I thought would struggle offensively, Boston is currently leading the league in:

                                • Hits
                                • Runs
                                • Doubles
                                • RBI's
                                • Total Bases
                                • Slugging %

                                Second in the league in:

                                • Batting Average
                                • Home Runs

How can this be? Especially with the line-ups the Yankees and Tampa Bay both have.
