    Little is an embarassment.
If the BoSox did win the WS, they'd be accused of buying the series too, or have you not taken a look at Boston's payroll lately?

        • Ken and RSFA, on this, the eve of Yaz' 64th birthday, you're both giving up? Where would I possibly be if I had neither of you two to get on, give you doomsday junk, keep showing you the scoring numbers? You guys gonna give up on your team that easily, and it's still August? When someone says "fair-weathered" and "bandwagon", please note who they're talking about.

Now both of you get back on the line and support your team, and don't worry about the Pats, Celts or Bruins until November is under way.

You'd think a Yankee fan wouldn't be telling you two about being faithful to your team, but that's the way it is. Give up on your team one more time, I'll lay the smack down real hard, and I think that Biggerin and whoever thinks like him should be the only ones who should call themselves Red Sox fans. If not doing it for Biggerin, then do it for Yaz!

The Official website of Carl Yastrzemski offers his Career Stats, Biography, Appearance Schedule, and Authentic Autographed Items by Carl Yastrzemski. Find out where Carl will be signing autographs or how you can purchase a autograph from Yaz!

If you two can't do it for him, you just may really not need to call yourself a Red Sox fan next season either!

          • They're still My Boys. I went to Fenway and screamed in anguish the other night, but they're still My Boys. Dropped $$ at the Souvenir Store. Went on the Park Tour. Already planning which seats to buy next season. They're still My Boys.

Yeah, they should have won both of these games. Lowe was pitching the best he has in weeks, and on his way to a CG shutout -- I have no doubt of that -- when the Blister That Ate Lowe's Thumb emerged from some nightmare world, and Little the Magnificent brought in 2 short relievers to do the middle relief's job. Last night they stranded 15 runners and Little the Magnificent mismanaged the bullpen right into a hole in the ground (or standings). He should have left Embree in for the 7th, let Timlin pitch the 8th, and left Kim for the 9th -- and should have bunted the runners along and otherwise groveled to get those runs home. But they didn't, and they lost.

But they're still My Boys. And Petey goes tonight.

I know it's hard to keep faith. I had a crisis of faith last week, and I'm doing my very best to remind myself that IT'S STILL ONLY AUGUST and there's still a good chunk of baseball left to play. It's been tough lately -- losing 9 of the last 13 is enough to shake anyone's confidence -- but what else can I do? Baseball is the only sport I follow. When baseball's over, Summer's over, and I'm not ready to start shoveling snow just yet.

I don't boo my own players. They already know when they screw up, and they feel worse about it than anyone. The drunk cretins in the stands boo, then go on to work the next day. The guy who failed in baseball doesn't have something to take his mind off the mistakes he made. Baseball is all he does. That's his job, and his dream, and I'm sure he feels it more keenly than anyone.

Okay, they've been stinkin' it up lately. Realllllllly drawing flies. But I'm not going to concede yet. They can't play this badly all the rest of the year. No, we may not win the East. In fact, it looks damned unlikely. But it's not completely out of the question, and we aren't eliminated from the WC yet either. See, in September, we play the also-rans while the A's and Mariners beat up on each other.

Giving up on the season, huh? Did Manny show signs of surrender when he hustled out a wall-ball double last night? Did Johnny give up on an infield single to third last night? Did Nomar see a ball go in the hole, and say, "what the hell, the season's over anyway"?

The leaves are still green. It's still swimming weather in New England. The apples aren't ripe yet, and the leaves haven't begun to change color.

            Go Sox!

            • Don't be a "fair weather" fan!

I know it seems like a "drop in the bucket" compared to what the Boston fans have endured -- but I supported the Yanks thru an 18 year (2nd longest in franchise history*) drought.

Besides -- there's still the wildcard!

              • wow, even yankeeman's pullin for you guys, lol.

seriously guys, come on. I know things look bleak right now, but they're gonna get better, I promise. I realize that taking the yankees for the division right now is a pretty tall task, but even if we don't end up doing that, there IS still the wild card.

Besides, keep in mind the kinds of victories we've had earlier on in the season. Late, 7th+ inning victories. It's about time for a late 7th inning season winning streak to get back in this thing.

Besides you damn well better make the playoffs because my preseason picks are looking good. No money of course, but pride is on the line.

                  • Ken, who's marked the coming of Yaz' 64th, he of the multi-hued and smilied responses, and his cleanup hitter, RSFA, the highly passionate BoSox fan, are both quitters now? Asking out in the middle? Gee, I thought only Clemens was accused of doing that?

Well now, I guess I'll just have to go back into old posts and see if you're still true to your old words, now wouldn't I? Yes, I do intend to lecture to Red Sox fans. Yes, I do intend to criticize, demoralize and bash. If you're still Red Sox fans, then you'll care. If you've given up, have said "bon voyage", then it just may not apply to you.

If a game doesn't go bad, do you run away in the 6th inning, claiming you "have to avoid traffic", even though you didn't drive? Stop running away, just face what's coming up. Jeez, you guy practically thought that Lilly out there was Chris Hammond or somebody. What makes you so sure the offensive fires are completely kaput?

If I don't get a response by the end of Sunday, I'm going through both RSFA's and Ken's old posts and daring them to match that level of passion, devotion and team spirit. You'll have to come out sooner or later, as I've never promised to be nice.

Oh, and the lead could even be 8 games by tonight. Please respond only if you dare to show that you care. If you don't, then would you two at least have the decency to put Yankee avs and sigs on yourselves? On second thought, don't. As it turns out, we don't like quitters either.

you may have a 7969696860869 game lead over the red sox but it doesn't matter you could lose the east if the cards fall right. so don't get to happy.

                        • being a fan

look, I've been a fan every year through thick and thin since 1967.

That means I've seen it all and been through it all.

I'm not saying I'm not behind them or won't root for them. But I DO have the right to be passionate and get disgusted with my team. I also have the right to declare when I think their realisitc chances at the title are done. Now, that doesn't mean I don't care or won't be rooting for them, it just means, emotionally, I'm checking out, I'm letting go of the dream for this year. I'll allow for a pleasant surprise, but I'm not holding my breath anymore. The writing is on the wall and I can read.
SOme of you sound silly. You soubd like oyu only define yourself as fans because you blindly cling to faith nomatter what happens. I don't see that as being any more of a fan - you just have a different philosophy. personally, I think it's silly. I'm secure enough in my 'fandom' and don't gain self worth from trying to 'prove' I'm a fan. And you clinging to hope doesn't prove your any more of a fan to me. To me, true fans also care enough to get disgusted and sometimes, the sox failures become to painful to watch or at least to watch while being emotionally attached.

and the payrolls don't compare and if you can't see that then you don't get it.

I root for the other sox all the time. Unfortunately its looks like they won't make the playoffs this year again cuz of the Yankees. The only thing i dislike is how everyone in the world always talks about a cubs red sox world series. And i have to here about the cubs enough. Id also like to thank the Yankees for sweeping the Royals cuz now we're tied for first.

If you've all been fans that long, still have something of Yaz on your wall, like a picture, or salute the memory of Teddy, man, guys, don't give up on your team!

If you ever give up on your team, I'll get George to just buy Fenway and rename it "Evil Empire Headquarters, New England Division". Oh, we'll serve lotsa chowda, but that's another story.

Now git up there and root for your team again! :gt

Yankees used to own Fenway Park before, so it wouldn't be the first time...
