  • The Extremely Random Prediction Thread (2008)

The Extremely Random Prediction thread is back for it's second year. What you do is throw the most off-the-wall, shot-in-the-dark predictions up. If you need some examples, here's last year's thread. I'll try to remember to dust this thread off at the All-Star Break and the end of the season to see if anyone's has hit the nail on the head. Keep them lighthearted.

    Mine:

Ichiro will hit 10 Home Runs

David Ortiz will hit 43 Home Runs

    Manny will hit .312

    Texas will go 56-106

David Ortiz will go 4-5 with a HR and 2 doubles on April 10th

Doug Mirabelli will hit 7 HRs

Joe Torre will be ejected 3 times.

2 games will be postponed due to snow.

The TB rays will end up 22 games back.

The Tropicana Dome will spring a leak.

      My predictions:

Gary Sheffield will be benched for one game- and then call Jim Leyland a racist...

Manny Ramirez will be traded to the Rays near the trading deadline...

John Maine will pitch a no-hitter...

The D'Backs will close in on the division, and then choke- handing the playoff berth to San Diego

Russell Branyan will get traded twice (that's basically a given)...

World Series: Tigers vs. Mets- Tigers win in 6

Tony Armas Jr. will get a win on June 15th and July 22nd.

Moises Alou will hit a home run on April 24th

Dan Uggla will go 1-for-4 on August 17th

Mark Teahen will be in the Home Run Derby (that's a bit of a longshot)

NL Wins All Star Game 6-3 All Star Game MVP: David Wright

What league are we talking about? Do you honestly believe he is going to play this year?

May 10th-There will be controversy as it appears that the Mets hit a game-winning hit but an umpire calls a player out. The Reds win in extra-innings.
August 14th-Jay Bruce has to wear a dress after the game after Ken Griffey, Jr. steals his clothes.
Unlike most other team sports, in which teams usually have an equivalent number of players on the field at any given time, in baseball the hitting team is at a numerical disadvantage, with a maximum of 5 players and 2 base coaches on the field at any time, compared to the fielding team's 9 players. For this reason, leaving the dugout to join a fight is generally considered acceptable in that it results in numerical equivalence on the field, and a fairer fight.

When I first read your list, I thought you said: David ORTIZ will join the 40-40 club...

I guess THAT would would be classified as a little off-the-wall.

                            In 2008...

Barry Bonds will turn down a deal from Tampa Bay.

Eric Bedard will be on the DL at least once before July 1.

Joe Blanton will lead the A's staff with 11 wins while Rich Harden will get 6.

Hanley Ramirez will steal 5 bases in one game.

Colorado will edge Arizona by one game to take the West title.

Roger Clemens will continue to throw people under the bus, including his son.

Richie Sexson, Adam Dunn and Brad Wilkerson will combine for 588 K's.
                            WAR? Prove it!

Rocco Baldelli will play only 32 games.

The Rays will finish 3rd in the AL East.

The NL wins the All-Star Game.

Only one team in the NL Central finishes with a winning record (Cubs I hope).

July 8 will have three games rained out.

The team that wins the World Series will open the season with their leadoff man hitting a triple.

The NL West has a three team tie for first.

Joe Blanton throws a perfect game.
