I think the worst call ever made was the homerun given to Derek Jeter vs the Orioles in the 1996 play offs. The ball was caught by Jeffrey Mayer.

          Well here's one.

Last August we played a road game in some **** town and one of my team mates hit a home run, now the CF leaped the fence, grabbed the ball and threw it home...the ump called him out...

Bernie Carbo being called out at the plate in the 1970 World Series when Ken Burkhardt had his back to the plate and Ellie Hendricks had the ball in his hand and not his glove.

Seriously though, one call that is rarely called in baseball is the call of 'safe' when a second baseman or shortstop misses the second base bag by 4 feet in order to throw to first to complete a double play. The 'phantom tag' is one of my few pet peeves.

Also rarely called is the call of 'strike!', like it is supposed to be, when a pitch is just below the armpits'.

What about the ball that bounced of Jose Consaco's head and over the fence for a homerun.

I hate the phantom tag. On occasion there'll be an ump who calls the lead runner safe, but doesnt happen much

At the level I am playing at, no ump will give a runner at second out with a phantom tag. I think the phantom tag stinks.

Has anybody ever heard of an umpire calling a do-over on a play? It happened once in a game I wasa playing in. I don't remember exactly what happened but I think it was a foul ball that wasn't foul and somebody was wrongfully called out and somebody scored and it was basically a complete mess on the umpires part so amidst the yelling from the dugout he just said "okay we'll just have a do-over". He was a terrible umpire though. He called a strike on a pitch that he didn't even see at one stage.

I had an umpire call a ball on a pitch I swung at.

When I was around 11 or 12 years old in Little League, I once got kicked out of a game for laughing at someone who was cursing out an umpire! The kid was swearing a blue streak and some of the things he was saying were funny, so I started laughing and got the thumb. Of course, the little monster got booted too, but still....
