  • Why are you a Fan of the team you root for?

Is it because you have grown up with them? Because they have a player you like? Because they have championships? Because they Represent your area?

I root for the Rays because i have grown up with them my parents have took me to Rays games since i was 8 years old and because they represent my area How about you?

I'm just glad you grew up with the Rays, not the Giants.

I was born with Orange and Black running through my vains. I always have been, and always will be a die-hard Giants fan.
San Francisco Giants, World Series Champions in 2010, 2012, and 2014!!!

If you haven't already, you should probably see a doctor about that.

Anyway, not having a local team to follow I used to watch an old collection of World Series tapes and the team that impressed me most as an impressionable youngster was the '82 Brewers. For the most part, have been miserable ever since.

Born in Pittsburgh, grew up on stories of Honus,Pie,Roberto, and Willie while watching Bonds,Drabek, and Van Slyke. Haven't given up on the Bucs while so many in this area have.

That's the saddest story I've read this month. And better, most baseball fans can relate. Congratulations for sticking it out, it marks you as a real Baseball fan.

I was born in New York and, except when I went away for college, have lived in Brooklyn my entire life. I grew up watching the Mets on channel 9. My first baseball game was a Mets game in Flushing. I am 26 years old and most of my friends are Yankee fans.

I also think David Wright is a hall of famer.

Live in the area, kind of born and forced into it. But I don't mind one bit!

I was born in Cleveland and spent most of my life living in a Cleveland suburb. I've always rooted for the Indians. For a short time when I was stationed in San Diego and Long Beach I rooted for the Pardres also, but that ended pretty quickly after I returned to Cleveland.

I like the Yankees and Mets because they are from New York. It's that simple. I live in Nebraska, but have a tourist's obsession with all things NYC.

Simple logic, really: I love New York, I love baseball, therefore I love New York baseball!

And as I am always ready to explain: I see no disconnect - NONE AT ALL - in being a fan of the Yankees and Mets. The reason is simple: Interleague play is rare. So given that these teams rarely play each other, why CAN'T I be a fan of both?

(On the occasion that they do face each other: I choose Yankees. But that doesn't mean I'm not still a Mets fan even considering this.)

Yankees fan From upstate New York so they are the local team. My father was born and raised in the Bronx and was a Yankees fan and as a 19 and 20 year old was invited to try out for the team in the pre-draft days.

Moved to Baltimore at age six in 1999. It's not like I can give up now.

Is that why you're named for Erik Bedard?

Yep. In 2006 he was my favorite player, largely because he and I are both of Canadian origin. It's not super accurate now I guess but I've still got a soft spot for the guy.

Cardinal fan. Born and raised. My mom has actually worked for the Cardinals for 13-14 years, but we've been Cardinal fans long before that. My favorite Cardinal player has always been a catcher-- Tom Pagnozzi, then Mike Matheny, and now Yadier Molina. My sisters all have "Cardinal shrines" in their homes and our living room is full of Cardinal stuff too..

I've been following baseball closely since I was a 12 year old in 1986. I saw the A's come play against the Mariners in Seattle (lived in Seattle till 2004) back in '86 and loved how they destroyed the Mariners. I loved the sluggers they had like Dave Kingman and Jose Canseco. Immediately after the game I spent my newspaper route money on an A's hat and have followed them since. I also follow the Rockies and call them my "NL Team." I lived in Tucson for 5 years and was literally 5 minutes from their Spring Training camp so I hung out with a lot of the players during practices and got to know a lot of folks in the organization. They are a top notch ball club.
