  • The All Local Team

I was thinking how cool it would be if ball players had to play for the team that was closest to them. For instance Stan Musial is from western PA so he doesn't make the Philadelphia team, he'd be in Pittsburgh. So here goes. Make a team, current or historical, where all the players are locals (or your city is their closest). I'm interested to see who has the most talent. You don't have to pick a city with a team either, or your city. Also players don't have to be from the metro area either.

Feel free to be lax with positions but lets not get crazy.

"No matter how great you were once upon a time — the years go by, and men forget,” - W. A. Phelon in Baseball Magazine in 1915. “Ross Barnes, forty years ago, was as great as Cobb or Wagner ever dared to be. Had scores been kept then as now, he would have seemed incomparably marvelous.”

Excuse me, but.... Dick Allen is from Wampum, PA, 40 miles north of Pittsburgh. Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. are from Donora, PA, about 25 miles south of Pittsburgh. Allen and both Griffeys would be on the Pittsburgh team, not Philadelphia.

Guys don't have to be from the metro area either. I just added that. Chicago just has to be the closest city. If thats what ya wanna do tho go for it. Your team looks like it may be better than mine and I have coal miners and farmers from basically east of the Susquehanna River.

Illinois really has two parts the Chicago area and then the rest is Central or Southern Illinois. I would like Jim Thome or Robin Roberts but those guys are from Peoria and Springfield and thats like 100 miles from Chicago.

I woulda always thought Illinois woulda had more talent than this though.

California, Texas and NewYork have the best talent and Alabama had alot of great players too.

Looking at both teams now I would say the Philadelphia team is better because of the pitching.

The thing with my team is I went pretty far inside PA. Baltimore could claim Eddie Plank from Gettysburg. Pittsburgh probably turned out more talent than Philly. I kept it in state but I'm not being a stickler.

I took two cities from Indiana but those two cities really are considered Chicago area. There in all the used car commercials here.
