In 1989 with the earthquake in San Francisco delaying, and imperiling even the playing without further risk of injury, of the World Series, I wrote the Commissioner's office to recommend that, in a nod to the Golden Age of Baseball, that they should play Athletics home games at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, and Giants home games in either Yankee Stadium or Shea Stadium, assuring each team a quasi-home field advantage. I thought they could do that for at least a few games, to give the Bay Area time to sort out whether it was really safe and advisable to play maybe games, five, six or seven in the Bay Area.
I found out the Commissioner's office was decidedly unsentimental about these things, as I never received even a "thanks for your thoughts" card back even months later. Oh well.
