  • Let's Make a Major League! (Phase IV, Pacific Division: Team Names)

After yet another overwhelming voter turnout in Phase III, Alignment #2 was chosen in a veritable landslide as the divisional setup for our brand new MLB. Here's how the team locations will be arranged:

    EASTERN CONFERENCE
Atlantic Division: Baltimore, Boston, Miami, New York (1), New York (2), Philadelphia, Washington
Midwest Division: Atlanta, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Toronto

    WESTERN CONFERENCE
Central Division: Chicago (1), Chicago (2), Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Minneapolis, St. Louis
Pacific Division: Denver, Los Angeles (1), Los Angeles (2), Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle

We had several team names suggested for each location in the nomination phase. Now, in Phase IV of the project, we can vote on which name we like best for each location. I've broken up Phase IV into 4 polls, one for each division, so as not to have a single poll with over 200 options. For each location, choose only one (1) team name, with the exceptions of Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York, for which you must choose two (2) team names. If you don't like any of the names listed for a particular location, you can choose "(other)"; for Chicago, LA, and NY, there are two "(other)" options for if one or both of the team names you like are not listed. In each poll, you should have chosen a total of seven (7) options, no more, no less.

Note: None of the team nicknames (i.e., the latter part of the team name) in our brand new MLB can be the same as any of the existing MLB team nicknames -- even if the name is being used by a team in a different location. So there can't be a San Francisco Giants, nor can there be a New York Giants, nor can there be a Minnesota Giants.

Holding a pitcher accountable for how many runs his team scores is like holding the designated hitter accountable for how many runs his team allows.

An individual statistic is meaningful only if it is based strictly on what the player does and not on what the other players on his team do.

Contrary to what most baseball fans claim, a pitched ball which is hit into play is not a strike.

I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game.

Denver Gold Sox (because I want a team named Something Sox somewhere; I'd also thought of somethign with green for California or here, like Green Sox for San Francisco, but then realize forest green would look very good with the Gold Sox uniforms, too)
        Los Angeles Imperials
Los Angeles Olympians (St. Louis would have been good for this, but L.A. has hosted 2 and its' a cool name)
Phoenix Rattlers (Just think of the cool promotion and the noise it would create :-))
San Diego Sails (Though I've voted for a few more intimidating names, I also like some of the names from simpler times like this)
Golden State Bears (I like Bears as a name, fitting for the nature aspsect of California, it would try to incorporate Oakland as well then)
        Seattle Orcas

I'd like to see some more votes in this series. It's a good idea.
