  • Rangers-Twins game delayed by lightning

I don't know how many of you saw this (I'm not in the U.S., so I don't know what the sports media there is giving airtime to), but the Twins-Rangers game a few days ago was delayed by lightning. I was unable to find the video yesterday, but it's up now:

This is definitely the first time I can recall hearing of a game delayed by lightning. On a personal note, I was actually following this game through my free trial of MLB TV when it happened, so I can add this to the list of strange baseball things I've witnessed. I was surfing the internet at the moment the bolt hit though, so I heard it rather than seeing it.

Hahaha that was awesome. We had a lightning strike a tree a block away from my house this spring--sounded just like that.....BOOOOOOM!!!! I thought a bomb went off in the neighborhood. Nothing like a close lightning strike to make you change your drawers.
I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game.

I don't blame them. Years ago when doing milk deliveries a bolt of lightning struck a tree in the front yard of a house I had just delivered milk to. I was in the middle of the road petrified. The next bolt struck a light pole 200 yards down to road. I ran to the nearest apartment block and stayed in there till the lightning was long gone.
Some of the Rangers did not seem to care, but they get lots of lightning over there in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference. ~Tommy Lasorda
