  • TIM McCARVER'S BEST/WORST PUNS?

Profile today in NYTimes refers to McCarver being partly renowned for the "groan-worthy puns" he's made over the course of 32 years in broadcasting. Anyone have any examples?

        They're not puns, but...

"The reason we call that pitch up and in is because the arms are attached to the shoulder."
After a David Ortiz HR: "Mt. Everest erupts again!"
"Matt Stairs is a very funny guy. He was born in New Brunswick, and loves the fastball."

OR, he could have said (re Clemens' legal troubles): ""The Rocket started this game, but it's ending in the docket."

OR: "Was that Rocket in the pocket, or was he just glad to see me?"

            OR: Aaaaah, that's enough...

Haha! Did he mean New Brunswick, NJ...New Brunswick, ME...or New Brunswick, Canada?
"He's tougher than a railroad sandwich."
"You'se Got The Eye Of An Eagle."

I think we should ignore McCarver because no one will ever top William Safire of The New York Times. I rarely agreed with him politically, but once he had a column about a sheik named Yamani and his headline was "Yamani or Your Life."

Very cool, but was the sheik a pitcher or position player?
