  • God Bless America and the 7th inning stretch

Anyone else think this brings down the mood of the game or at least creates an atmosphere that may become too serious? What happened to take me out to the ballgame?

I mute the tv and pull up Harry singing it. Can't stand it. The local AAA team used to have their own song that they played. Hated that even worse because it sucked!!!!! I think they might have changed it a while back though.

Jimmy Dugan: ... But sneaking out like this, quitting, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. Baseball is what gets inside you. It's what lights you up, you can't deny that.
Dottie Hinson: It just got too hard.
Jimmy Dugan: It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.

I hate both the song and the sentiment behind it. I wish MLB teams would scrap it.

Baseball needs to re-think this...stop taking yourselves too serious...how many patriotic songs must we do at a game? Must we start saying the pledge too?

I think baseball should keep the song but only sing it on holidays or Big events like All-Star games or World Series games.

It kinda makes me wonder what the Cubs would do if they made the WS. Did they sing Take Me Out To The Ball Game during the 2007 and 2008 playoff home games?

"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

I know they did in '03 because white sox fan bernie mac referenced the cubs as champs during the song, then it was down hill

They did. (I was at one of the 2008 games.)

I remember reading a Yankee fan complain about it comparing Camden Yards to the new Yankee Stadium, oh man, Orioles fans get to sing Twist and Shout during the 7th inning stretch? At Yankee Stadium, we get to recite a loyalty oath
