Wildlife seems to be prevalent in Chicago. A long-time friend (40 years) of my mother lives in Chicago (on the south side, several miles from Wrigley Field, though she lives near the 95th/Dan Ryan station on the red Line, and so could have a one-seat ride to Wrigley if she chose to go to a Cubs game). Anyway, she recently adopted a cat who had been a stray in the neighborhood. The cat usually is out and about all day, and just comes back to the house at night to eat and sleep. Anyway, one day, my mom's friend heard him outside the door, and opened it, and there was the cat...with a raccoon! The cat came in, and she slammed the door before the raccoon could follow. She then told the cat "you can stay here, but don't be inviting any of your friends over!"

I used to live in Schaumburg, a large, crowded suburb about 30 miles from downtown Chicago. I came face to face with a coyote on a walking path through an industrial park there one afternoon. I always thought it was odd that in all my travels and camping trips out west in the desert and the mountains, I never saw a coyote until I met one a few blocks from home in Schaumburg, IL.Last edited by ol' aches and pains; 11-30-2012, 10:56 AM.They call me Mr. Baseball.
