Coyotes outside Wrigley Field
1. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that many players are over-rated due to inflated stats from offensive home parks (and eras)

This is becoming more common across midwestern cities. Fewer big predators (wolves, bears, and mountain lions) in the midwest means a lot more deer in urban areas and the coyote as the only big(ish) predator flourishing to eat them.1885 1886 1926 1931 1934 1942 1944 1946 1964 1967 1982 2006 2011

Wildlife seems to be prevalent in Chicago. A long-time friend (40 years) of my mother lives in Chicago (on the south side, several miles from Wrigley Field, though she lives near the 95th/Dan Ryan station on the red Line, and so could have a one-seat ride to Wrigley if she chose to go to a Cubs game). Anyway, she recently adopted a cat who had been a stray in the neighborhood. The cat usually is out and about all day, and just comes back to the house at night to eat and sleep. Anyway, one day, my mom's friend heard him outside the door, and opened it, and there was the cat...with a raccoon! The cat came in, and she slammed the door before the raccoon could follow. She then told the cat "you can stay here, but don't be inviting any of your friends over!"

I can't believe how big these rats get. I've seen rats as big as small dogs.
It is kinda strange that coyotes would be on the North Side near Wrigley too. I can kinda see them being on the South Side or on the outskirts of Cook County"(Shoeless Joe Jackson's fall from grace is one of the real tragedies of baseball. I always thought he was more sinned against than sinning." -- Connie Mack
"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

I used to live in Schaumburg, a large, crowded suburb about 30 miles from downtown Chicago. I came face to face with a coyote on a walking path through an industrial park there one afternoon. I always thought it was odd that in all my travels and camping trips out west in the desert and the mountains, I never saw a coyote until I met one a few blocks from home in Schaumburg, IL.Last edited by ol' aches and pains; 11-30-2012, 10:56 AM.They call me Mr. Baseball. Not because of my love for the game; because of all the stitches in my head.

What did surprise me was that I saw one run across the road in front of my car at home in NJ. This was 10 miles from the Atlantic Ocean.Last edited by Muncus Agruncus; 11-30-2012, 05:13 PM.

How appropriate for Wily E Coyote to be attempting to find a way into Wrigley Field, after the season is over! He must be a real Cub fan!Catfish Hunter, RIP. Mark Fidrych, RIP. Skip Caray, RIP. Tony Gwynn, #19, RIP
A fanatic is someone who can't change his mind and won't change the subject. -- Winston Churchill. (Please take note that I've recently become aware of how this quote applies to a certain US president. This is a coincidence, and the quote was first added to this signature too far back to remember when).
Experience is the hardest teacher. She gives the test first and the lesson later. -- Dan Quisenberry.
