  • V-Neck Pullover Jersey & Sansabelt Pant Picture Thread!

Celebrating the Ultimate Baseball Look and the Golden Age of the baseball uniform. An unfairly maligned era of baseball uniforms. The only era in the history of the sport where the uniforms actually fit properly. Gone were the days of the baggy, droopy, clown-like look of the overly romanticized era of flannel uniforms and before the era of oversized, ugly, nonsensical button-front jerseys and belted pants of today. An era, perhaps the only era, the only time where baseball players actually looked or at least resembled actual athletes.

    Steel City

The Pittsburgh Pirates once had some of the classiest uniforms in baseball, then one year they abandoned the look, for what?

      Reds

The last time the once proud Cincinnati Reds franchise was relevant, they wore v-neck pullover jerseys and sansabelt pants. They no longer compete for titles and they no longer play the first game of the season. Coincidence? I think not.

I think Joey Votto, Aroldis Chapman and co would disagree with you on this one. I won't dignify your last "coincidence".

1990, 1990, 1990. The Reds haven't been the same since, but I started this thread to celebrate baseball's 'Ultimate Look' and because I was accused spamming another thread in the Current Events forum. This is about celebrating a great look, remembering what once was and hoping what could be again!

            Cardinals

The current St. Louis Cardinals jersey, both home and the road, to me, reek an unbearable amount of pretentiousness, to a level that makes me actively root against a team, I, as a Mariner fan should feel indifferent about. The Cardinals once had outstanding uniforms, and after studying it a bit, I even like their old powder blues. To the relief of those with good taste, we can at least take solace in the fact that the old v-neck pullover jerseys are still up for sale. What a great look.

              Angels

Back in the day, during the Rod Carew, Reggie Jackson era, the Angels had one of the best uniforms on the planet. It's about as close to perfection as you can get. Great colors, great stripes, great everything. Quite the contrast compared to the current Angels uniforms which are boring and dominated too much by the color red. Remember when the Angels looked good?

I'm not sure what you're doing is in the spirit of this section, Baseball Photography, which is, "Dedicated to the preservation of historical baseball photos."
Seems like the History of the Game section would be more appropriate.
                Thanks,

                  Angels

Jamaican born outfielder Devon White had the great fortune wearing one of baseball's greatest uniforms early in his career. Like I said before, it's very close to perfection on the diamond.

Speedster Vince Coleman heads for third wearing the greatest road uniform in St. Louis Cardinals franchise history.

That was a great uniform. I hate that the Angels wear very little blue these days.

I guess the softball uni's of the 80's-90's weren't that bad. Better than the crap they wear today.

                          Brewers

Robin Yount in the early '80s Brewers v-neck pullover jersey and sansabelt pants, the look of the athlete. Trim, tailored, fitted baseball uniforms, why do they need to be a thing of the past?

Jim "Catfish" Hunter and Vida Blue in the early days of the v-neck pullover jersey and sansabelt pant era. What an era.
