  • Best Games of 2005?

    Hello,

    Baseball fan from Sweden here.

I wanted to purchase a few of the best games from the last season. Which games do you consider the best and most exciting games from 2005. Please name the date and also why you think that och those games were the best. It doesn´t hurt if it involves the Red Sox since I´m a fan of the Sox but it doesnt have to be.

Not sure of the date (October 9th I think), but the Astros-Braves NLDS game 4 that went 18 innings and lasted 5 hours and 50 minutes

Longest game in playoff history, very dramatic

Opening Day at Dodger Stadium. April 12th.
Using a stolen chant from Boston Celtics fans whenever an L.A. team is playing up there just reeks of inferiority complex.

If hitting a baseball is the toughest thing to do in sports, then pitching must be the easiest thing to do in sports.

May 6th was the Cubs losing their THIRD STRAIGHT game with two outs in the 9th
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

            Nationals @ Padres 9/17

Padres losing 5-0 in the 9th, Randa hits and RBI single, Khalil hits a game-tying grandslam in the 9th. All of this with 2 outs. Then Ramon Hernandez hits a game-winning 3 run homer in the 12th inning to give the Padres a win. This win also marked the possible wrap up for the division.

Opening Day at Dodger Staduim I though it was over in the 8th for us when Kent grounded in a DP and Drew stuck out. The first 2 weeks of the season gave way to a pitiful showing by the Blue

I enjoyed Jose Gullien after being booed by Angel fans hitting a HR to give Washington a lead in the 8th after Donnelly was kicked out of the game for cheating, Classy Angel fans punching Ryan Church on the left field wall.

Just a terrible game for the Angels

Yanks come back from a 10-2 deficit and go on to win 20-11 thanks to a 13-run 8th inning.

                    8-14-05

                    Mets/Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

Pedro Martinez went 7 1/3 innings without allowing any hits, and in the bottom of the 8th inning with the Dodgers trailing 1-0, Antonio Perez tripled to break up the no-hit bid and Jayson Werth followed with a 2-run shot to left-center. In the 9th, Brad Penny allowed a double to Marlon Anderson, who was thrown out at the plate trying to tie the game, and the Dodgers won 2-1.

The Chris Burke solo shot to knock out the Braves was also a good game, followed by the Angels/A's game where Jason Kendall scored the winning run off a boneheaded mistake by Francisco Rodriguez (the A's were trailing 5-2 with 2 outs in the 7th, I think).

I remember some game: Braves at Cardinals on a sunday (mid-august), Hudson vs Carpenter...Atlanta up in the 9th inning, bottom of the ninth and Cards win thanks to a walk off Grand Slam by Eckstein! Unforgettable!

Another great game (not a pitching duel) was Angels and Yankees (july 31, I was at yankee stadium, 1 week holiday in New York); two days after, Shea Stadium, Brewers at Mets, another wonderful game with a Mets win thanks to Piazza in the 11th inning.
