Developer trying to entice Marlins to relocate to Charlotte

From CBS Sportsline "Developer Jerry Reese said Thursday he has invited Marlins officials to visit Charlotte and view the location where he proposes to build a ballpark."

It's about time someone figured out that Charlotte would be a great place for MLB. Thankfully, Charlotte did not make a play for the Expos and we have them here in DC now.

Assuming the Nationals are safe in DC, which city should the Marlins move to?

Las Vegas, definately! I can go to a game there as well, when I visit the West Coast the next time.

I think they should stay in Miami, but there is no chance that that will happen.

Charlotte? Will they be called the Hornets then...?

The Marlins really are the new Expos. So many similarities. Same gruesome twosome in Loria and Samson. Same scheme in asking for public funds to build a stadium.

It's fascinating to watch, but sadly alot of people are going to get hurt in this. Miami's going to lose there team and some new city is going to have their citizens pay up some major taxes to bring in a team.

Portland should be the new home for the Marlins, they do have the stadium plan in place. Here's the thing, Mayor Potter has gone on record saying he does support MLB coming to his city, he just doesn't want any public funding for the stadium. Though that is a dent, that is fixable. The Portlanders that I have talked to (or people close to the city) said that they support MLB coming to the city, it's just that Mayor Potter is acting like a total douchebag.

I voted Portland because I like it more than the other cities...but I don't know which one of these cities likes baseball. I mean, in Miami nobody goes to the ballpark to watch the Marlins (it's really sad watching a Marlins game on mlb.tv)...in which one of these cities the ballpark will be full?

I assume the Triple A team would relocate...not too many cities with a Major League and a Triple A team. Though it would be convenient for the players getting callups lol

I like the idea of Charlotte. Not a bad one, but I still like Vegas. Either works in my opinion.

I voted for Vegas because I have a house there, and would definitely go to MLB games if a team relocated there. There is no doubt they are ready for a team. They will not build a stadium to try to entice a team, but if a team was to relocate the stadium will be built.

Public funding for stadiums is one of the most ludicrous things i've ever heard. It never brings any economic benefit to the city, as some claim, and just diverts money from far more important causes. But why should governments spend money on silly things like public housing and poverty programs when they can build stadiums for rich MLB owners? Hopefully the people of Charlotte will have the good sense to stop this.
