  • Around the Majors: Nationals make an offer to Sosa

    1) Nationals GM Jim Bowden says he's made a major league contract offer to free agent RF Sammy Sosa.

    2) The Diamondbacks signed free agent OF Jeff DaVanon to a 1 year, $525,000 contract, with an option for 2007, and designated P Mike Gosling for assignment.

    Ughhh.

Seeing this is the only MLB offer Sosa has it more than likely means we'll see him in Viera this March.

Probably a low base loaded with incentives?

FRobby doesn't seem the type that would cotton to Sammy.

A healthy Sosa willing, big if there, to listen to Robbie and once again shorten his stroke could be a bargain.

        Here are some details.

        http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbc...91/1002/SPORTS

A one year deal, no guaranteed spot on the team, incentive laden, the Natioals are liable for a 30 day "termination fee" if Sammy doesn't travel north from Viera.

So he'll have to work in spring training. Good.

It could turn out he does ok, but I'd rather see a spot go to someone they actually have plans for.

I still don't get it. Ever since 2001 he's been heading straight downhill. An absolute monster 2001, a very good 2002, above-average 2003 and 2004 seasons only because of power, and an absolute abysmal 2005. His %s in everything but HRs (and Ks) were dropping like flies over the past few years and he has no speed anymore on the bases (like he would actually get and STAY on anyway) and in the field. Rob Deer in RFK, yeah, that will work. Soriano and Sosa, whiffs are in the air...

          Burnt out.
          Johnson and now Goligoski gone.
          I hope that's all.

            A waste of money.
So crappy player who CAN'T , emphasis on CAN'T and CRAP, hit anymore, play defense anymore and still manages to draw interest.

Jim Bowden is a nut, I hope he'll get booted and we'll get a GM with BRAINS, emphasis on BRAINS.
