  • Congratulations Chad Hedrick

Chad who?, a lot of you will say maybe.

CHad Hedrick, an American speed skater who won the first Olympic gold medal with speed skating at the 5000 meter today.

An American beating the Dutch on their discipline???:noidea Good for the sport.

The last time when that happened was in Lake Placid. Eric Heiden won a gold medal at the 500 m sprint, 1000 m sprint, 1500 m, 5000 m and 10000 m.

    Again congratulations.

I know it is off topic and it has nothing to do with baseball, but I had to mention this.

"As I grew up, I knew that as a building (Fenway Park) was on the level of Mount Olympus, the Pyramid at Giza, the nation's capitol, the czar's Winter Palace, and the Louvre — except, of course, that is better than all those inconsequential places." - Bart Giamatti

You go through The Sporting News of the last 100 years and you will find two things are always true. You never have enough pitchers, and nobody ever made money.

Until baseball and softball are restored, the Olympics are merely a sideshow. When both the president and prime minister skip the opening ceremony, it's testament to how much their own country cares about them.

That being said, congrats to Hedrick.
