  • 2006 World Series Logo Unveiled

    By: Chris Creamer - sportslogos.net
    February 15, 2006

Power up that Intellivison, pop in a Beta and get ready for the 2006 Fall Classic.

This seasons' World Series logo was unveiled today, along with three alternates and a script logo, and the logo design instantly conjures up memories of the 1980s.

A red and blue rounded rectangle is flanked by the words 'World' and 'Series' in blue, a split oval with a grid is on the rectangle, as is the year and a rather large MLB logo.

The alternate logos all include the split red and blue globe but change the position of the event and year script.

The 102nd Major League Baseball Fall Classic will kick off October 21st.

Unlike most other team sports, in which teams usually have an equivalent number of players on the field at any given time, in baseball the hitting team is at a numerical disadvantage, with a maximum of 5 players and 2 base coaches on the field at any time, compared to the fielding team's 9 players. For this reason, leaving the dugout to join a fight is generally considered acceptable in that it results in numerical equivalence on the field, and a fairer fight.

    I prefer alt 3

Yeah i agree with that. Alt 3 is the best

Alt 3 is easily the best.

The globe in the background is perfectly sized, and it has WS 06, which I think explains more than just 2006.

Alt 4 isn't too bad either, just the MLB logo is a little too small.

all of the designs have the same warped/pinched lettering that follows the horizontal lines of the globe and that looks very contemporary, very smart. but i would rather not see "world series" reduced to two letters, and the year reduced from 4 to 2 numbers. this makes alternate 3 my least favorite.

i like the boldness of the primary design, which is tops in my book.

i also like the script design.

I prefer Alternate 2, its rounder and fuller and isn't as BIG as the primary.

i like the warped lettering. except, that one could be used for the all-star game. it has no directive to the world series. h

the scale of the primary design can be easily scaled down.
