  • Enjoy your retirement Sammy and THANKS

Good luck to Sammy Sosa in retirement and thank you for letting me see some of the most exciting ballplaying in my life. For those who'll point out the corked bat( said it was the only one, xrayed his 72 other bats all negative)let them remember the millions you have spent and raised to help kids in the Dominican and your 155 games per year giving it your all and aside from 2 or 3 stupid decisions as the end drew near that will dog you, being a positive solid awesome force in the game. For a seven year period you were as complete a hitter as there ever was and more exciting than most. For a ten year period you are hard to match. Thanks and Best Wishes , keep helping the kids and time will allow your positives to rise to the top.

    (disclaimer -

As a fan, I understand another fan's tribute to a fav player.

I thought we had a forum for an exchange of opinion, but I think you may be correct, this is not the place.

    My apologies to LindseyNelson.

I will move my comment to another thread)

      Cheers to that...

And for those nay sayers... Some famous guy once said: "let he without sin cast the first stone." I will have to look up who said it... but if you think about it, it makes sense...

Let' the record show.. Sammy never tested positive for the use of ANY performance enhancing drugs, and any comments on that matter here is strictly views of this sites visitors, and is no way the views of the site owners.

and to quote Dennis Miller on anything, lessens your creditability drastically.. in my opinion.

Why is it that everyone acts like Sammy used PED's for sure? Unlike with Bonds and Giambi, there isn't any testimony where he admitted it. Unlike McGwire, he denied it to congress, and he has never had a positive test. Until there is any kind of proof he used steroids, i'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

            Could not agree more.

Let's right this ship, this thread was a nice "farewell" from a fan to a player, there is NO ROOM here for rants about any speculation.

So I am asking, if you don't have anything nice to say, please save it for another time. no need in bashing this thread with ANTI-Sosa remarks.

I'll miss you, Sammy. Heck...I already do. Too many memories to count over the years.

              - Running out with the American flag after 9/11.
              - 66.
              - 63.
              - Carrying an abysmal 2001 team to 88 wins. (2nd-place HR total on that team: 17.)
              - Carrying an abysmal 1998 team to the playoffs.
              - Ties Ernie Banks for all-time Cubs homers in fitting fashion: game-tying homer in the 9th. Mo follows with a game-winner.
              - Christening the GAB with #500.
              - Three 3-homer games in 2001. Most ever.
              - Three 60-homer seasons out of the eight in major league history.
              - In one of three rundowns in the wild August 2001 finish against Colorado where Gutierrez ultimately scored to win it.
              - Cubs fans banding together around Sammy after Corkgate.
              - Game 1 NLCS home run to tie the game in the 9th.
              - 1998 MVP. (In our hearts, also the 2001 MVP.)
              - Homer in the rain against Cincy. Closest thing to a walk-off you'll ever see in the 7th inning.

              Goodbye Sammy.

a player who we only see twice or three times a decade has retired and the 1990's will always be associated with sosa. I remember me and my dad every night huddled around the tv watching cubs and cardinals games during the hr chase waiting for sosa or mcgwire to hit a home run and i will never forgot watching tv watching you sprint out to right field in wrigley field on a perfect afternoon game.

                goodbye sammy.

The steroid speculation can't ruin the joy he brought to the game- even if it turns out it was tainted.

When you found out that there was no Santa Claus, did it ruin your childhood memories of Christmas? Of course not.

This is a farewell, this is not about statistics, value or his place in the history of the game.

Sammy is a very giving man, he's an inspiration to many. I think people really connected to him, he exemplified that big kid inside all of us adults. In this era of self-entitlement, Sammy was obviously genuine in the appreciation of his blessings, talents and opportunities. He enjoyed his situation in that innocent kid in a candy store way and not in that self indulgent, pompous manner and always made sure to give back not to promote his own image, but because he never really lost sight of the big picture. The person is more important than the ballplayer in the end...

You nail my feelings exactly. having been busy for a few days and reading between the lines here I guess I hacked some folks off by what is now missing, but I was merely thanking an exciting , give it his all player for some nice memories.

I also wish to appologize for adding to the distraction from the original thread intent. From personal experiance I do understand that Sammy had a tremendous impact upon fans, brought more of them to the game, and played a role in bringing the game on the world stage.
