1) Famed sports broadcaster Curt Gowdy died at the age of 86. Gowdy broadcast 13 World Series, 16 some star games, spent 15 years as the Red Sox play by play announcer, 10 years as the broadcaster for the game of the week and also did a lot of other sports broadcasting.
2) The Cubs and Mark Prior both deny a Baseball Prospectus report that he is experiencing shoulder problems.
3) Orioles 2B Brian Roberts is still recovering from a torn tendon and ligament in his left elbow. He says his goal is to play on Opening Day, but he might not be ready until a couple of weeks later.
4) Position players report today for the Braves, Devil Rays, Indians, Padres, Phillies, Pirates, Reds, Tigers and Yankees. They reported yesterday for the Angels, Cardinals, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, Mariners and Rangers.
5) The Red Sox signed P Franklin Nunez to a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training.
6) The Indians named C.C. Sabathia as their Opening Day starter.
7) The Nationals signed P Kevin Gryboski to a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training.
