      • You're setting a very dangerous precedent when you start punishing people for merely being accused of something. This is why I dislike the woke/Metoo culture, as any thinking person should...you're literally giving a woman the power to ruin a man's life merely with an accusation. I believe that in the vast majority of cases the woman is a willing participant in the 'harassment', especially if the man is rich, famous and powerful.

        • What Bauer did and Clemens and Bonds did are very different.
"No matter how great you were once upon a time — the years go by, and men forget,” - W. A. Phelon in Baseball Magazine in 1915. “Ross Barnes, forty years ago, was as great as Cobb or Wagner ever dared to be. Had scores been kept then as now, he would have seemed incomparably marvelous.”

          • MLB did not punish him based solely on an accusation, however. They punished him based on their investigation. Which included his testimony as well as hers, which neither of us know the content of. What we DO know is it included him admitting to her that he struck her while she was unconscious.

You can believe whatever you believe, but the fact of the matter is it is much more common for a rapist or abuser to get away with it than it is for an unjustly accused one to be ruined. Not even close.

Again, the comparisons to murderers. Sad.

What we have here is a situation involving "alternative" sexual behavior the media has been working hard to mainstream. The media can't then turn around, and expect outrage at participants. What people consensually do in their own bedrooms is their own business.

Bauer and the woman engaged willingly. According to her own messages, she engaged enthusiastically. To expect Bauer to perform second-to-second wellness checks, in the heat of the moment, is unrealistic, if not preposterous. She got some bumps and bruises; not an uncommon outcome. According to her own messages, financial gain was a motivation in her dragging authorities in.

Nobody's taken these facts into account, and then explained where Bauer's wrongdoing was, much less criminal action.

What's disheartening is how enthusiastic presumed liberals are, to throw due process in the can - as if it won't come around to bite them on the behind, at some point.

There is statistically only a 6% chance that a rapist will end up in prison.

                    • The Dodgers announced Thursday that they’ve given right-hander Trevor Bauer his unconditional release. Los Angeles designated Bauer for assignment last week and explored trade possibilities for the right-hander but was unable to find a match. He’ll now become a free agent who can sign with a new team for the league minimum. The Dodgers will remain on the hook for the rest of the $22.5MM still left on Bauer’s deal.

The Dodgers released right-hander Trevor Bauer. He's now a free agent. Read more at MLB Trade Rumors.

                      • Yeah, no reason for any team to give the Dodgers anything for him when they know if they just bide their time he'll be available for the minimum. It'll be interesting to see if/who. My guess is it won't be a playoff team or a team that's for sale. (I'll leave my opinions out of it this time, other than a quick mention that teams don't exactly seem to be rushing to sign him.)

                        • He'll probably get picked up by a bad/mediocre team for (near) league minimum. Too good of a pitcher for everyone to pass on. People who have been accused of similar things have gotten jobs because they can throw a ball well. I've heard he's reasonably well-liked (not hated) in Cincinnati...

                          • I was looking at Bauer's stats recently and was shocked to see he had an ERA of 4.18 or higher in each of his first six seasons, and in seven of his first eight seasons. I never realized he was that bad for that long.

In the history of MLB 96 pitchers have had a 4.18 ERA or higher in each of their first six seasons. Two of them would later win a Cy Young award - R.A. Dickey and Trevor Bauer.

Bauer ostentatiously used the "sticky stuff" to draw attention to the ubiquitous use of it. I think it was in 2020. Statcast backs that up:

Bauer had his breakout a couple years earlier. He's been a highly touted prospect far earlier than that: taken with the third pick in the 2011 draft. He was long considered a top talent.
