That's one of the coolest posts I've ever seen. As for the content the Yanks did also denied any option pick up for that '07 season. "Im not a player you want unhappy on your team..." Sound familliar?
"I believe in the soul ... the small of a woman's back, the hanging curveball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter."

Actually, GM Brian Cashman said yesterday that barring an unforseen injury, they'd "likely" pick up Gary Sheffield's 2007 option for $13m:

I think Martinez is going on to do some work for ESPN.com as an onair analyst.

They played the interview on Mike & Mike and again showed it on Cold Pizza. They said "they have spoken..." but "no we have not extended his contract...nor picked up his option for 2007..."

Basically, Sheffield's got a very good chance of getting re-signed. In fact, he's got a lot greater chance of having his $13m option picked up than Moose has of his $17m option, both for 2007. For Sheffield, it's a matter of staying healthy and putting up his usual numbers. For Moose, it's really very unlikely.

As mentioned in one thread in the Yankee forum, it's a matter of his staying healthy. Whether it'll be as a RFer or a DH will be decided upon who is traded for or signed as an FA this season or next winter.

Honestly, I won't mind seeing Tino on Baseball Tonight, he would be better than Bowa.

Tino was one class act. He had a good career and was overall an enjoy player and guy to watch on and off the field. Hope the best of luck to Tino as an ESPN analyst on Baseball Tonight.

During The Yankees reign over the past 10 years ... Tino Martinez was my favorite of them all. Boy, I had high hopes when he came in to replace Mark McGwire in St. Louis. He never lived up to my hopes, but, he still remained one of my favorite players.

He will be missed on the field, but hopefully just as enjoyable as an analyst for my favorite baseball resource.

                  Much Love Tino.

I was lucky that he was on two of my favorite teams.

There comes a day for every player to retire, but it will be strange to see a Martinezless Yankee squad without him.

I wish him all the best.
