  • is bonds worth signing...

as a DH in the al? or does he bring too much baggage with his legal situation?

170 ops+ in 126 games is what he posted last year...he still hits for good power, but his best skill as of now is still taking the walk. if he were to sign with an mlb team, which team could use him? maybe the angels?

There's a lot of factors. If he's willing to play for a very small amount of money, the risk to the team is minimal, but you still have to deal with an unpopular player with some personality issues.

I still think Bonds is worth signing despite the controversy that follows him. He is simply too valuable of a hitter. I would even take him as a left fielder. Of course, this is assuming he is willing to sign a reasonable contract.

I would be too worried about him affecting the other players who may not like him, or be annoyed that he would overshadow the whole team no matter how well be played. And i dont think he'd post anything nearly good enough numbers to offset the burden he would bring.

A sure profit for any club that wants a good slugger. More fans in the seats and more national coverage on TV for sure.

Pros: he can likely still hit the living daylights out of the ball.
Cons: everything else about him...especially the prospect of losing your newly acquired slugger to prison at an inopportune time.

            I'd likely pass.

His career is likely over. I don't see anyone signing him.

Prison time is definitely a risk, but if he signed a small enough contract, or one with some sort of prison-clause (lol...), it might well be worth the risk.

No, it's not worth it to sign Bonds. He carries too much baggage and the negativity will have its toll on the team that signs him. You want to risk getting more money at the expense of getting more headaches and distractions?

I'd say no, let him retire.

Honestly, I'd be more concerned about his health than his hitting, although he isn't the monster he once was at the plate. He's had some suspect wheels for a while now and any day, they could cave in on him. He would most certainly be a DH. I'm convinced as I could possibly be that he was 'roided up for some time, and if he's likely to curb the usage even further than he probably has, he's prone to feeling his age. Meaning likely injuries, IMO. I know one thing, I sure as hell hope the Dodgers wouldn't even be interested in a sniff of this guy. Bad news from both a salary and a distraction standpoint.

That would mean teams liek the Devil Rays wouldn't have anything to worry about.

I think the Red Sux should definitely sign Bonds. That has nothing to do, however, with me hating them.

                              1) Teams like the Devil Rays likely wouldn't have a use for him, and
                              2) he'd likely not go to a team like the Devil Rays

Regardless of the prison situation, the market of teams looking for Bonds' services would be small. You'd pretty much have to be a team with a hole at DH, and plenty of cash to burn. I don't think Bonds is ready yet to sell himself cheap.
I heard somewhere that he'll likely end up in Japan.
