maybe we'll finally put the classy myth behind us, eh?

The pinstripes don't change the player inside or the way the game has been played, for as long as the game has been around. Same go's for suspensions, it's far from the first Yankees player receiving a suspension. The Yankees are just considered classy off the field, not on it when they're playing ball. Same rules, same retaliation as the other clubs.

The class of the Yankees will go away when the hate disappears and I don't expect that to be any time soon.

ok, then I would ask why are they considered classy of the field?

Watson has been real tough with his fines and suspensions, I usually dont agree with him, I think he is too tough, and I feel that way here too.

He played for many teams, and being an ex-Yankee doesnt affect his handing out his punishments, which he loves to do.
I AM SO THANKFUL FOR BEING BORN IN NEW YORK AND FOR BEING A FAN OF ALL NEW YORK SPORTS TEAMS

Why would someone call him Yankee Bob when he spent most of his time as an Astro?

Why would Watson do the Yankees any favors when they traded him at the start of the year after stinking it up with his bat?

Watson's the father of the Francona Rule who sent a rules goon into the Boston dugout in the middoe of the game at Yankee Stadium to enforce the dress code against a guy who has legitimate health reasons to skirt it -- while Francona was trying to get the defense lined up to keep Jeter from stealing second. Nice to know he can get it right sometimes though.

Bob Watson is a lot like Frank Robinson: a stickler and an Old School hardcase. He botched the Francona thing, but he's generally fair.

I loved having him in Atlanta.

There is only 2 teams I associate with class through all the years I have been around.(55)

                  1/Yankees
                  2/Dodgers

Being a Yankees fan I can understand my #1 pick with the class they have shown with all the success they have had.

Dodgers is the team I always root against the most but I have always thought they were a real classy team. They know how to win without thumping their chest and sticking their tongue out at you.

                  For one year.

The 84 Tigers with the ease they won the WS was blue collar class at it's best as far as I'm concerned.

That is about it for my picks of class. My 2nd favorite team which was #1 until the 1993 Rockies and my least favorite team with a team for one year that was as classy as it gets IMO.

So again, what makes the Yankees classy? What do they do that is so damn classy? They win games, spend big money, and stick their nose up to everyone that isn't part of their team.... Being conceited and uppity shouldn't be confused with being classy.

With all that hate, nothing I type, could counter it, if you didn't get anything out of my other post.

Did Lou Gehrig represent sportsmanship, respect for opponents, and respect for the game?

A player can represent sportsmanship, respect for opponents and respect for the game...and still play for an organization that uses it's financial advantages to crush the opposition (or routinely rape it for players in the case of the old KC Athletics, which were little more than a Yankee farm club) and acts like all other teams are something to be scraped off the bottoms of their shoes...especially when the team holds a reserve clause on that player.
So, the answer to your question is...yes, but.

even though I do not think the Yankees are classy, I do think one of their players is extremely classy; Jorge Posada.

watch the video of their final game of the 2006 playoffs. The Tigers are beating them pretty good and are on their way to their first ALCS since 1984. Posada comes up late and kills one that you knew was out as soon as he hit it. He dropped the bat put his head down and ran the bases as fast as he could and got off the field. He knew it was no longer his stage and he bowed out gracefully....pure class.

Sure the Athletics were a kind of Yankees farm team. But did their management allow this or not?

Man, your life must have been miserable the last decade.
