  • Rumor: Roberts to the Cubs?

Orioles: Cubs add Ceda to Roberts offer

The News for Fanball [[email protected]]

The Cubs have upped the ante in their attempt to acquire Brian Roberts from the Orioles. On Thursday, they added prospect Jose Ceda to the mix, according to the Chicago Tribune. Infielder Ronny Cedeno and pitchers Sean Gallagher and Donnie Veal are the other players offered up by the Cubs.
Despite the daily updates, it appears most likely that a deal won't be completed until opening day nears. Stay tuned.

Without Roberts the Cubs could be at the 2nd place.

      Code:
      Milwaukee Brewers	88	74
      Chicago Cubs 86	76
      Houston Astros 82	80
      Cincinnati Reds 81	81
      Pittsburgh Pirates	73	89
      St. Louis Cardinals	68	94
      With Roberts in:

      Code:
      Chicago Cubs 90	72
      Milwaukee Brewers	88	74
      Houston Astros 82	80
      Cincinnati Reds 81	81
      Pittsburgh Pirates	73	89
      St. Louis Cardinals	68	94

It's likely to happen...as close to Opening Day as MacPhail can push it. Don't be surprised to see it become a 5 for 2, with Jay Payton joining Roberts on the flight to Chicago...

This would be a good trade for both sides I think.

The Baltimore Sun reports trade talks continue regarding Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts, with the Chicago Cubs believed to be the most aggressive pursuers.

The Orioles remain interested in the Houston Astros' Mark Loretta, either as an eventual replacement for Roberts or a utility infielder.

            The Astros are involved also...

I have faith in Jim Hendry, hes always been able to get the players he wanted and make the big trades when they seem to mater the most. I trust he will get Roberts (and possibly Payton) before Opening Day!

Nope. "Manny Will Be Traded By Boston" still has it beat by a couple years.

BTW -- Mark Loretta? How many former Sox do the O's want to have at one time?

Kaz Matsui just had his hemi's operated on so I doubt if the Astros are willing to part with Loretta at this time. Why Matsui didn't have this operation done in the off season? Who Knows?

Isn't it more like "Manny wants" then "Manny will" or is it about a toss up?
