  • Red Sox may boycott trip to Japan

Surprised this has not been posted yet, its all over the net. Apparently MLB had agreed last year that all coaches would receive the 40,000 stipend that players will receive for Japan trip. The sox found out last night that the coaches would not be receiving the money. So the sox are threatening to boycott the trip.

As of 12:07 the Redsox have not taken the field for the start of their exhibition game, so apparently MLB has not come to an agreement as of yet.

If there was an agreement in place, I like this move.

I love this move. Money or not, MLB should not be playing games in Japan, China or Timbuktu.

The Blue Jays also have not boarded their flight for today's game against the Red Sox. I'm unsure where the Toronto players presently are.

Until further notice, Daisuke Matsuzaka will be playing in a Minor League game when the Japanese trip was to be played.

Where did you read(hear) this? I can't find anything else on it. Any word on what Oakland will (won't) do?

Apparently the issue is resolved. Todays Red Sox game will be staring at 1:10. Then after the game, as scheduled, they will be boarding the plane to Japan. While this was going on the Athletics held a vote also threatening to boycott the trip.

I just reported whatever I'd heard on the radio. Since Toronto is in the AL East, I would somehow imagine they'd already be in Florida. If I misheard, then my apologies.

This is the latest that I've heard about the trip:

Curt Schilling will travel to Tokyo with the Red Sox on Wednesday despite being on the 60-day disabled list with a shoulder injury that is expected to sideline him at least half the season.

No big deal bro. Just curious, because I couldn't find any info (other than the BoSox vote).

                    AWESOME!!
That's exactly what I hoped would happen.

Question: What was wrong with holding Opening Day in Cincy every year? That seemed to be going well.

                      I like this move.

It definitely shows that the Red Sox are a team.

In the deal reached this afternoon between the Red Sox and Athletics, MLB agreed to give the coaches 20,000 for the trip. The Sox players have said they will make up the other 20,000 themselves to the coaches, plus pay additional Red Sox employees on the trip money.
