            1. David Wright (5 tool player at age 24)
            2. A-Rod (great, but has probably peaked)
            2. Valdimir Guerrero (consistent as they come)
            3. David Ortiz (best hiter the last 5 years)
            4. Ichiro (amazing all around game and consistency)
            5. Miguel Cabrera (Wright without the fielding or speed)
            6. Chase Utley (Just reaching his peak)
            7. Albert Pujols (headed for a decline)
            8. Jose Reyes (best at leadoff besides Ichiro)
            9. Ryan Howard (Best power hitter)
            10. Justin Morneau or Lance Berkman (Morneau is younger, but Berkman more proven)

i know next to nothing about the game, i am running to catch up to even novice level...from where i sit in the uk, my 9 are:

              1. a-rod. obviously.
              2. guerrero.
              3. holliday.
              4. jeter.
              5. sizemore.
              6. ordonez.
              7. ichiro.
              8. griffey jnr.
              9. pujols.

              apologies for spellings.

                Rodriguez,AlexNYA
                Wright,DavidANYN
Pujols,AlbertSTL (although tough to gauge effects of injury)
                Utley,ChasePHI
                Beltran,CarlosNYN
                Sizemore,GradyCLE
                Santana,JohanNYM
                Reyes,JoseNYN
                Holliday,MattTCOL
                Granderson,CurtisDET

Folks who list Miguel Cabrera or Hanley Ramirez are underestimating the effects of fielding. They are clearly top twenty-five players, but wouldn't lose any value if switched to DH.

Just what exactly is the definition of "young" here? It's not old by any means, but A-Rod is 32, which is at the tail-end of middle age in baseball years.

Kinda in a loose order, but I really do stress consistency and long-term success, leaving guys like Hanley Ramirez or Fausto Carmona out of consideration.

Only one guy picked the best LHH over the last 3 years? How come no love for Big Papi? He was only like .012 OPS behind A-Rod as a hitter last year and well ahead of him the previous two. And I see the defensive butchers Cabrera and Howard on a lot of the lists so don't give me the DH BS. Ortiz would at least beat Howard defensively if he had to play the field and Howard would DH on any American League squad.

Well, if you were building a team from scratch, would you take Ortiz with one of the top ten picks?

Look, I'm a big fan of David Ortiz, but all things considered, I would not consider him in my top 10 of desired MLB players if I'm starting a team.
