Who is watching Velez?

I don't think so...watch him when he's at bat. That kid wants it more than anyone. True, he's not as big as maybe....any of the other guys. He is fast though. Maybe not the star, but I think he'll definitely be an attribute. You gotta be a man to play baseball for a living, but you gotta have a lot of little boy in you, too. ~Roy Campanella

Velez...
Velez needs a lot of work. I really like him a lot, but defensivley he needs some work. His best position is probably 2nd base, but he isn't great there. He would be ok in the outfield just because of his speed.
He is lanky with long legs, and he is fast because he takes such long strides. He is an ok hitter, but he hustles a lot and has a great attitude. I think if he were to play 162 games, he would probably give you around .285 or .290 with 10-12 HR's. The good thing is he would probably steal between 60-70 bases. The guy is as fast (if not faster) than Reyes or Crawford. He could be the Giants leadoff guy of the future."Candlestick made me a man" -Will Clark

i'd say "bright spot" instead of "star".
his defense is barely average on good days, and hit hitting is in need of work.
that guy sure can fly, though! he goes home-to-first, -second, -third with the best of 'em!
the possibility of velez standing on third after a walk after just a few pitches is real... and threatening."you don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. just get people to stop reading them." -ray bradbury

all right, i'll go with "bright spot." i don't know, i just get a good feeling about that kid. and these days with the giants, i'll hold onto any hope I can grab on to! He's hit relatively consistently too, compared to a lot of his team members. he helps me relieve some of my anger about bocock...Last edited by EdwardMerrin; 04-11-2008, 03:13 PM.You gotta be a man to play baseball for a living, but you gotta have a lot of little boy in you, too. ~Roy Campanella

Yep, he's ready. Brush off a spot for his bust in the Hall of Fame. Why wait?
