  • Will Bonds Play in 2008?

I know there are alot of Bonds haters, but I would still like to see him play

    It makes interesting news

    every homerun is history

and its fun to watch him, whether you are rooting for or against him.

Unless he's willing to take a big paycut i cant see any team wanting him, and simnce its very likely to be his final year if he does play, its becoming less and less likely. Who wants a 43 year old slugger who is probably the most hated player around and who has a very large legal issue waiting to be resolved that could stop him playing any time? Really, unless he publically says "$1m for 1 season, dont care where i play" i cant see anyone being interested.

I'd like to see him swing the lumber again this year for some team but the good ol' boys club IMO, has a different say in the matter. Still led the NL in OBP I believe, so teams still fear him saying, ha ha, at any major decline.

Even at 44 he is still better then 2/3 of MLB players with a bat in his hands and still can play as good of LF as Burrell.

And he is free of any legal issues for 2008

Bonds is a disgrace. The fans don't want him. Baseball needs to move on as best it can. His trashing of baseball's most hallowed record is horrible enough.
We don't need this guy to ever set foot on a ML diamond again. He made his money(under false pretenses) & he got his record (empty as it now is), so he should go find another hobby.
No team would alienate their fan base by entertaining such a moronic idea.
        It's over.

i'm a fan and I would take him....heck...I cheer for Sheffield! TIGER FANS LOVE HIM!!! LOOK AT ALL THE SHEF (Chef) HATS!!!!

if Sheffield gets hurt for any long length of time I wouldn't doubt for a second that the Tigers would call Bonds

It would have to be some bargain, I would hope, before the Tigers did that. Stroies are indeed only stories, but we heard a lot about how heavy an effect Bonds and all his drama played on the Giants dugout and in the locker room last year. Beyond what smug player hater Rick Reilly would scrape together.

150 walks isn't really worth that.

i heard the same...but its probably harder for Bonds to lord over other superstars then to lord over the no-names in SanFran. I mean do you think Sheff would allow Bonds to disrespect him?

I'm not so sure it's as much about personal respect than it is for just the presence of that person alone can suck the life out of the room. Whether or not it is Bonds's actual doing, that sort of drama can cast a heavy shadow.

i think part of that though is the ability for one person to call out another person when that happens. When one player is so much better and such a bigger star than everyone else then that star will not get called out. If that star is just another star and you have people like Sheffield who will say what he wants to whoever he wants then I don't see the same problem.

that being said, I would hope Curtis Granderson stays clear of Bonds so he doesn't pick up any bad habits

You'll never convince me that Bonds couldn't help a team and bolster the attendance. Everything was fine and dandy with MLB when Bonds was chasing the HR record and putting butts in the seats. What is so different now? Guess it's OK for the high moral fan to show support to these PED players as long as they don't break some long standing record. Any fan that thinks there watching a 100% PED free game better think again. Selig still won't give total control to a independent testing company so he can keep controlling this PED farce of his.

It's not about steroids for me, I just don't think he's a good player anymore.
He can't run or field and he get's walked a lot. I want to see a competitor not
                      a side show.

Getting walked still has value, so Bonds can easily be a DH. If teams are still scared to pitch to him (if he continues to play, of course), Bonds will continue to have value. How much value would depend on what team he's on.

I think he'd be a good pickup for the Rays or Mariners, even the Royals.

I agree, but also feel he's too much of an egotistical pig to play for the Rays or Royals. The Mariners I could see since Richie Sexson isn't worth the tp he wipes his butt with.

old sweater: Everything was fine and dandy with MLB when Bonds was chasing the HR record and putting butts in the seats. What is so different now?

it seems that the majority of bb-f members knew in the late 90s that substances were being used, yet continued to enjoy games and the game itself.
but then along came bonds and 600 and 700 and 715 and 756 and baseball suddenly became "ruined".
