  • A's interested in Thomas?

The A's could be interested in bringing back Frank Thomas. It depends on whether they want power or average out of their DH. Thomas will hit for more power, less average, strike out more, and walk more than Mike Sweeney

Didn't think so. I'll see you again tomorrow night around the top of the ninth."

Barry Lamar is better and is available.

But Thomas will cost almost nothing and will add some righthand power bat to that power-dead lineup. An Barry is still is suspense mode regarding his legal problems.

bonds is free + clear of all court dates for this season; it is not an issue.

That's not a bad debate though. As a GM or manager of a ballclub, who would you take if you needed a DH? Would you go for Barry Bonds or Frank Thomas?

For me, Frank seems like a better guy all around, and I know he can still pound the ball. He would definitely be better for the clubhouse and he is more well-liked.

But I am pretty sure Barry would still be able to put up 25 HR's and draw 100 walks while hitting .300...so he may still be more valuable.

I think whoever signs Thomas is going to get a great deal. The guy has some issues to prove that the Blue Jays were wrong. He is going to be very motivated.

The Oakland Athletics agreed to terms with designated hitter Frank Thomas, who was released Sunday by the Toronto Blue Jays

A's signed Thomas. Who saw that coming?

Signing Thomas for $337K is a great baseball bargain. But the truth of the matter is, forgetting the money, Barry Lamar is much the better hitter and can even shuffle onto the field to play LF occasionally (at least at the Emil Brown level).

He's hitting .161 with a .250 slugging precentage. However, he does have a .373 OBP thanks to 18 walks.

I think A´s are looking more power of his DH plattoon they have and Mike Sweeney looks as a single hitter right now.

Cust will take over in LF until he's either traded or designated for assigment. The A's also Rajah Davis and he might get some time in LF or CF as well.

He'll probably platoon at 1B with Barton... Look for Sweeney to get traded in the next few weeks.

A's sign Frank Thomas - good for them - bad for the rest of the AL West.

Bonds could be signed and play LF. Thomas and Bonds can rotate in the DH spot. Bonds can play LF. Neither play will play every day, but you'll have high OBP players and quite a dangerous lineup for nearly nothing. The Blue Jays mainly paying Thomas to play for A's. At this point, Bonds' asking price should have decreased. Still, I'm curious if the Barry Bonds' baggage is just that bad for teams to avoid a player who's quite productive for his age last season.

I do see Cust and Sweeney on their way out with Thomas signing.
