I'm hoping Maddux can get to 374 wins. That would be amazing!
Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.-Crash Davis

That would be very nice, but right now, I'm looking for him to pass Clemens (354).
46 wins to match last year's total

If he remains healthy he may stay on in 09 and go for 374.
but short of natural disasters its only a matter of time before the 350 win club has a new member and then of course its just a matter of how far up the list he goes. :cap:

Maddux should pass Clemens by early June I would think.

The reason I would consider Maddux getting to 374 wins amazing is because Maddux pitched his entire career in a five man rotation with the increasing use of relief pitchers. Some people always yammer on about how we will never see another 300 game winner, yada, yada, yada...Yet we already have three pitchers start started their careers in the 1980, pitch entirely in five man rotations make it to 300 wins plus a fourth that just may get there as well. And if Smoltz didn;t spend four seasons as a closer he may have had a shot as well.

I'm hoping he wins too, I've got 50 bucks riding on it.

                  Maddux's statline:

                  7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K. 75 pitches, 51 strikes.

Well, Hoffman blew it. Still a great night for Maddux though.

Hoffman has 528 saves with a liftime 2.77era and someone is going to jump on here and say it's decline even though he had 42 saves last year with a 2.98era. I'm sure Maddux walked right up to Hoffman and called him a declining piece of crap.

No-one said haffman is a bad closer or is in decline. He just had an off night. Maddux was great, should have got the win, but sometimes theres nothing you can do about it, which is why win/lose totals arent the best measure of pitching, although they do give a general view of who is good and who isnt.

Not yet thankfully. He's 40 though and someone should be piping in anytime now.

Not the best measure but it sure the most important result for pitchers.
