  • Need some Info

I have been searching the internet for the answer to this question. I ran across this board and thought maybe someone here could help.

I was watching a game this season and there was this pitcher who flinched every time he pitched. The announcers commented on it as well, saying that he was a good pitcher, but not a very good fielder because he appeared to be afraid of the ball. I thought that was interesting that he could have made it to the majors and have that "glitch", so I was going to look up some info on him, just out of curiousity. Alas, I am unable to remember his name! Does anyone on this board know who I am referring to?
I think the home plate umpire might have had a date tonight, because he had a big zone. I don't have a date, but I might be able to get one after this. (After a shutout that took just an hour and forty-one minutes) - July 24, 2002 - Jose Lima, Houston Astros Pitcher

    Which game were you watching?

It may have been Okajima of the Red Sox. I remember the announcers talking about his flinching before pitches, but not about being afraid to field, so I could be wrong.

Okajima puts himself in peril by twisting his head away from the plate. Naturally, that works against his fielding proficiency. Not so sure that it's not from a habit rather than being afraid of the ball. He may be afraid because of the habit itself putting him potentially in harm's way.

I don't remember the game, I watch too many! It's not Okajima. The pitcher I was watching was right handed.
