  • Rick Ankiel's 2 amazing throws in 1 game

Last night against the Rockies Rick Ankiel had a brilliant game. Got his 6th homer of the season and had 2 of the best throws ive seen for a long time. Both from deep CF to 3rd base with pinpoint accuracy and timing. I know he used to be a pitcher, but the distances are huge. The first one especially was brilliant, as the commentators said "He just threw a strike to 3rd base from 250 feet!"

Those are some nifty throws, right on the money. I want to give Ankiel his props for what he has done. Going from pitcher to hitter at the major league level is almost impossible. But he's done it. Plus he's improved himself since last year. His OBP is way up and his K rate is way down.
Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.-Crash Davis

Sure but could Juan Pierre have made those throws, OS?

Ironicaly, he was unable to throw strikes from the pitcher's mound post NLDS 2000.

Of course he could, it just would have taken him two throws from the same distance.

This is one of the great MLB stories, and I've been rooting for this guy ever since he's been trying to switch to the OF. It took him a little while, but he's really showing up for the Cards now. This guy is a true athlete, even if he can't throw a strike from a mound, he could sure as hell strike people out. He's still pretty young too (I think 28), and he has some time to improve after being a pitcher for so many years.

Those throws from the OF put a huge smile on my face. To see Ankiel playing a good CF should put a smile on anyone's face who remembers that meltdown in 2000.

Nah.... that second one was a bit high.
