We're about 1/4 of the way through the season and Lance Berkman is hitting .390, slugging .800, and leading the league in homers and RBIs. 120 games is a long way to go, but we're pretty deep into the season for him to still have numbers like that. How do you think he'll hold up? Will he make a triple crown run? Win the MVP? Cool off and finish with his typical numbers? What do you think?

How will Lance Berkman finish out the season?

I think he'll definitely put up and maintain numbers that will be somewhere in the top 5 for MVP voting in the NL. Obviously if he keeps his current pace he could even win the triple crown. However, I remember back in 05 when Derrek Lee was putting up those types of numbers into June, and he eventually cooled off and I think got 3rd in the MVP voting.sigpic

Odds are just to hard to say triple crown.

Well he did just have one of the hottest weeks ive seen in recent years, i dont think he can maintain that pace. His stats will almost certainly come down, the question is how long can he last. Chipper is still surprising me keeping his avg well above .400, so maybe Berkman can keep the pace up.

I think that Lance and Chipper will both end up around .320 with 35-40 HRs.
Although, they both have upside potential.
Hot streaks at the start of the year always get noticed...if they slumped early in the year and then got super hot in late May and June, say, it wouldn't get much notice."I throw him four wide ones, then try to pick him off first base." - Preacher Roe on pitching to Musial

You can't judge Berkman by the hottest he's ever been.
But with his track record I see .330 and 46 HR. I would usually say expect the .315 and 40, but streaks like this bump it up. That's 31 HR over 4.5 months.(fantasy football)
JM: Only did that for a couple of years and then we had a conspiracy so it kind of turned me sour. Our league's commissioner, Lew Ford(notes) at the time, was doing some shady things that ... I'd rather not talk about [laughs].
DB: Isn't he in Japan right now?
JM: I don't know where Lou is right now. He's probably fleeing the authorities [laughs].

Chipper has clearly got the potential to sustain a .350+ BA throughout the season, and this red hot start means even if he has a bad slump he'll still keep a high average providing he hovers around his career avg for the rest of the season.
