  • How did Arizona go from a weak offense in 2007 to a productive one this year?

Arizona made it to the NLCS, even though they had a weak offense.

This year, they have the second-best offense in MLB.

How did the D-Backs pull off this 360 in a span of a year?

Also, if there are any D-Backs fan, I ask you this:

WHY did the team trade Valverde?

I feel if they kept him, they might be even better.

The same way Detroit went from the worst team in AL history to winning an AL Pennant. More experience brings better playing. Also, Brandon Lyon already had closer experience so losing Valverde wasn't a big loss like when Milwaukee lost Cordero and had to find someone. Plus looking at Valverde this year, it looks like a good trade.
Unlike most other team sports, in which teams usually have an equivalent number of players on the field at any given time, in baseball the hitting team is at a numerical disadvantage, with a maximum of 5 players and 2 base coaches on the field at any time, compared to the fielding team's 9 players. For this reason, leaving the dugout to join a fight is generally considered acceptable in that it results in numerical equivalence on the field, and a fairer fight.

Playing more games at home so far has helped. 27 games at home/17games on the road

      2008 D Backs

      home/.296/.373/.480
      away/.221/.304/.387

      2007 D Backs

      home/.260/.333/.445
      away/.241/.309/.382

Must be some of that 1100ft altitude.

They've been cooling down some after that real hot start.

Having all those young studs is helping too. Upton, Reynolds, Chris Young is off to a slow start but still can produce.
