Here is an ESPN.com article about it. Apparently former Senate Majority Leader, George Mitchell, will be heading the investigation.

From that article, at the last paragraph:
"Mitchell is the chairman of the board of the Walt Disney Company, the parent company of ESPN."
Seems like one of baseball's sponsors (at least they pay money to show games) will have an official hand in what eventually does or doesn't happen to Barry Bonds. Please read Baseball Fever Policy and Forum FAQ before posting. 2007-11 CBA

I wonder how much the investigation will reveal how MLB knowingly turned a blind eye to the problem and allowed it to fester because fans were filling the stadiums. Any legitimate investigation has to focus not just on the players, but what the teams knew and did, what management knew and did, and most of all the league what the league knew and did.

Originally posted by GooooooYou are misinformed. Without working out steroids wont help you build muscle. just get you fat and bloated.
I work in cancer research.
Anabolics are used at cancer institutes and in treatment of diseases like HIV which induce a catabolic wasting in the body. Anabolics such as Anabolic Steroids and Testosterone not only stop the wasting btu actually can put lean muslce and weight back on these pateints with little or no exsercise on their part. And these people take these substances at perscription levels, not the massive doses that Athletes use to gain mass quickly.
Not only that but Steroids prevent the body's natural catabolic processes from breaking down tissue after workouts/activity. And many of these substances increase metabolisum and actually aid the protein synthesis process.
Bottom line on Anabolics your body makes muscle reguardless of activity.Get out the Vote!!!

Originally posted by GooooooYou are certainly 100% wrong about steroids. They don't give you muscle without working out. Most steroids allow faster muscle growth through greater recovery, while others help increase strength which allows for greater stress to be put onto a muscle. Without food to build the muscle or training to stimulate it, nothing will happen. Most of the weight gain seen with the use of some steroids is due to water retention and is not actual muscle.
Heres an article that details how people with kidney failure increased mass and strenght while taking the steroid nandrolone. There are no intense workouts for these people other than trying to do basic daily tasks.
There is also a study done that details the gains of HIV patients with a moderate exsercise program.
These people can't sped hours in the gym or push themselves greatly. But thier benift form Steroids are documented.

Just to clarify what I meant about the phrase "without working out" - obviously most of the MLB users worked out during the off seasons. What must have been odd is their jersey size increased during the season and their muscles seemed to be getting bigger. Thanks ESPNfan for pointing out that not everybody had to workout to benefit.

xx: ...MLB has announced that it will investigate steroids use by its players.
looks like the focus is to be the players, not the substances themselves.
looks like they will not be at all serious about the real issues of illegal drugs in baseball."you don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. just get people to stop reading them." -ray bradbury

ESPNFan: And these people take [anabolic steroids] at perscription levels, not the massive doses that Athletes use to gain mass quickly.
all along, several of us have been speaking of athletes who have been on training regimens upwards of 10-15 years that include steroids without harmful effects.
it is all about moderation, agreed.

but this. well, i was under the impression that human growth hormone was the fountain of youth, the genie in the bottle, the magic potion."you don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. just get people to stop reading them." -ray bradbury
