Due to the size of today's report, it's time to start splitting them into a couple of parts.
1) The Blue Jays placed P A.J. Burnett on the 15 day DL.
Burnett has elbow pain and will miss a couple of starts.
2) The Indians re-signed CF Grady Sizemore to a 6 year, $23.45 million contract.
Sizemore set the record for the largest contract for a player with less than 2 years experience, breaking the mark held by Nomar Garciaparra.
3) The Dodgers re-signed 2B Jeff Kent to a 1 year, $11.5 million contract extension, covering 2007, with an option for 2008, with becomes guaranteed if he has 550 plate appearances in 2007.
4) Padres 1B Ryan Klesko has a sore left shoulder and could start the season on the DL.
5) The Orioles are moving C Javier Lopez to DH. After they signed Ramon Hernandez, the plan had been to move Lopez to 1B. He will continue to practice as a 1B and could get some playing time there.
6) Rangers P Adam Eaton had to leave yesterday's game, due to an injury to his right middle finger. It is similar to an injury that made him miss almost a couple of months in 2005.
7) According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Mariners are still interested in Craig Wilson, with the Pirates being interested in Joel Pineiro.
8) The Dodgers placed SS Cesar Izturis on the 15 day DL, recalled P Tim Hamulack and released P Brian Meadows.
Izturis is recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Hamulack had been sent to the minors earlier in the week. But, he could be recalled without spending 10 days in the minors since he was recalled at the same time that a DL move was made.
9) The Diamondbacks released OF Luis Terrero and sent P Jeff Bajenaru to the minors.
10) The Orioles released C Geronimo Gil.
11) The Cubs sent OF Michael Restovich and P Rich Hill to the minors.
12) The Reds sent INFs William Bergolla and Matt Kata and P Brian Shackelford to the minors.
13) The Tigers sent INFs Don Kelly and Mike Hessman, OFs Nook Logan and Alexis Gomez and Ps Mark Woodyard, Roman Colon and Hector Mercado to the minors.
14) The Tigers claimed C Rob Bowen off waivers from the Twins.
15) The Marlins released PH Lenny Harris and P Kerry Ligtenberg and sent INF Mike Kinkade, OF Matt Cepicky and P Scott Olsen to the minors.
I don't have any updated stats on this, but as of a couple of years ago, even though Harris holds the major league record for career hits by a pinch hitter, his lifetime OPS as a pinch hitter was actually worse than his mediocre overall figure.
