  • 2006 Comeback Player of the Year

Who do you think has a good chance of winning the 2nd Annual Comeback Player of the Year Award in the AL and NL? Here's my prediction for the guys that will probably be in the running --

AL Comeback Possibilities - 3 DHs and a 3 3Bs oddly enough... oh and the Red Sox middle infield:
    Phil Nevin (DH - Tex)
    Jim Thome (DH - Chi)
    Frank Thomas (DH - Oak)
    Aaron Boone (3B - Cle)
    Mike Lowell (3B - Bos)
    Tony Batista (3B - Min)
    Mark Loretta (2B - Bos)
    Alex Gonzalez (SS - Bos)

NL Comeback Possibilities - more mixed -
    Scott Rolen (3B - Stl)
    Aaron Miles (2B - Stl)
    Scott Hatteberg (1B - Cin)
    Jose Cruz (OF - LAD)
    Craig Wilson (OF - Pit)
    Corey Koskie (3B - Mil)
    Mike Lieberthal (C - Phi)

Anybody else that is in need of a comeback?
The Q: Can the Cubs hold a 6-5 lead with 2 outs and nobody on in the 9th?

    The A: No

    ***********My Rant on Bud Selig***********
Selig is like a stray pigeon. Pigeons are too self-absorbed to care about anyone else. They poo on people they don't like; they poo on people they don't even know. The only real difference between Selig and a pigeon is that Selig intends to bury our heritage, our traditions, and our culture,

I gotta think that the smart money is on Thome and Bonds.

Nomar's a candidate if he can stay of the DL
"As I grew up, I knew that as a building (Fenway Park) was on the level of Mount Olympus, the Pyramid at Giza, the nation's capitol, the czar's Winter Palace, and the Louvre — except, of course, that is better than all those inconsequential places." - Bart Giamatti

You go through The Sporting News of the last 100 years and you will find two things are always true. You never have enough pitchers, and nobody ever made money.

Are there any requirements for the Comeback award? I mean, is there a specific period of time that you had to miss or do very poorly in the previous season?

Curt Schilling? Would he "qualify" for something like that?

I think its too easy to turn, any of those people could easily crash n' burn before the season comes to a close.

I wonder if Pudge could be considered a candidate. Lastyear was probably the worst season in his entire career. He had a .290 OBP for godsakes. This year he's been hitting very well. Granted, it could be just a " hot streak ", or he could be having a better season.
